Love Song of J Arthur Prufrock
The epigraph at the beginning of the poem refers a narrator saying, probably a man to a woman, lets go out together into the night. Asking his/her partner to go with him on endless streets, he calls them “streets that follow like tedious arguments, meaning streets that never end. Through dirty streets and dark places.

Symbolism

3. The yellow smoke equals slyness or sneakiness I think the narrator is trying to describe things that change and differ from each other. He says there is a time to murder and create, a time for you and a time for me, a time for a hundred visions and revisions. I think he is trying to say that in order for the world to go on, people need to adjust to the way things happen. Time changes things and it doesn’t matter if you are ready for them to change or if you even want them to or not, they’re still going to change regardless. Most things are uncontrollable. He says that when people are changing, they ask themselves what they feel is right. They go off of what they believe is the right thing to do, not based on what other people expect to happen, but based on your own feelings towards

Change is inevitable, yet it can be denied depending on who and when they experience this change and also on the passing of time. Time can bring forth wanted and unwanted change. In 'Sky High' by Hannah Robert, Les Murray's 'Spring Hail' and 'The Widower in the Country' and 'Here Without You' by 3 Doors Down all demonstrate various aspects of how change is due to the passing of time, which is inevitable.…

Structurally the poem reads the journey of the poet as it goes through the different stanzas. The line 'I walked down Palestine street' is repeated at the start of every stanza. This give the poem a sense of rhythm and suggests how much goes on in that one street, and the journey of the poet from past and future.…

The poem by T.S. Eliot “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” is a dramatic monologue written in 1915. Close to the end of the poem Mr. Prufrock stated “It is impossible to say just what I mean” (104). This statement will be analyzed to discover the hidden connotation of this phrase and convey the speaker’s ultimate goal. The questions that will be answered are: What does Prufrock mean when stating “It is impossible to say just what I mean” (104)? Is this statement stated due to a lack of vocabulary, words cannot convey his actual emotions, or is he just unable to express his own emotions to the listener? Are there other underlying circumstances to cause Prufrock not to speak his mind? By the end these questions will be understood along with the true…

Many people would have made chosen to take the path that has been taken more often, knowing they will be safe and their deeds will go unnoticed. I would have taken the path less traveled by too, but not everyone makes the same choices. This is why there are both bad and good people in the world. Hopefully someday the good will weigh out the bad and all will be equal. The author used poetic devices to make the poem seem more real. Even though choices are already real. In the first line the poet gave am example of assonance. “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood.” The ‘O’ sound is repeated in “roads” and “yellow.” He also gave an example of personification. In the eighth line the text states, “Because it was grassy and wanted wear.” He gave a human characteristic to a non-living thing. He was saying the path wanted wear but only living things like humans, animals and plants can want. The poem as a whole could be considered a metaphor. The poet was comparing the paths in life to the choices one must make. This poem speaks of the actual choices in one’s life, as roads one must choose to take. The roads represent your choices in…

The epigraph from Dante’s Inferno provides us with a glimpse of Dante’s journey through hell. In the passage provided, we observe Dante’s conversation with Montefeltro, a man who has been condemned to the eighth circle of hell, which is reserved for those who’ve committed treachery or freud. The epigraph sets the stage for a confession of the damned. Just like Montefeltro, Prufrock makes that assumption that the audience can relate to his pain.…

Hamlet written by Shakespeare during the years of 1599 – 1601. Throughout this play there are many allusions that are portrayed towards the Elizabethan audience that only people from their time period would understand. When I first read over these lines I thought nothing of it and did not understand these words thrown at me, which required me to do research. If a line in a play requires research for an audience t understand it then those lines need to me modernized, which is why I have come up with my own translations. First in Act 1 scene 1 line 14 the text refers to someone named Julius which some people may not know it Julius Caesar the Emperor of Rome. Thus referring to when he was assassinated. Second, during Act 3 scene 2 line 14 when…

In the previous verses Frost explains in narrative one road to be the road that the traveler like stated earlier can be assumed to be Frost himself, to be road he will choose. However, that is not the case in that we find that the lyric has changed. Bringing confrontation with the other road to be explained as “having perhaps the better claim, because it was grassy and wanted wear; though as for that the passing there had worn them really about the same”. Frost emotions have changed when he gazed upon the second road. This is what brought the irony of the poem and also shows good use of nominally poetry. Meaning the sectioning a poem to where it was written, putting the poem “The Road Not Taken” into that category. I believe the second verse of the poem grabs the attention of the reader, Frost changing the tone of the poem showing dilemma the traveler faces. This also brings the curiosity of the reader and brings them to make decision themselves of which path they would choose and would the traveler choose the same…

In To his Coy Mistress Marvell presents to his lover an argument for lowering her defenses and to give free reign to her desires, while at the same time allowing him to satisfy his own. The poet argues that "coyness" is, in fact, criminal since we are not alive long. The long, drawn-out vowel sounds of the opening stanza - "our long love 's day;" - mimics the painful process of his "mistresses" refusal and a series of ironic references underscores his frustration. An allusion to the "conversion of the Jews" foregrounds that her preciousness will go on forever, and among other biblical references becomes a surprising mechanism to persuade her to yield up to him her virginity. In the seventeenth century, we might have expected the opposite! A further technique used to this end is that of the traditional blazon, but again the convention takes on an unconventional twist. Instead of a discreet head-to-toe description, Marvell focuses his attention on his women 's breast and nether regions:…

This means, ‘men may come and men may go’ but time stays on just like “The Brook” (A river). We have examples of famous personalities who dreamt big but had to accept defeat in front of time. Hitler had dreamed of ruling over the whole world, but his progress fell slow very soon in front of time and had to commit suicide in the end. Ben Hecht said, “Time is a circus always packing up and moving away.” Time once past cannot come again. We have to move ahead with the time to achieve something in life. If you don`t follow the time, you will unquestionably have to pay a high cost for this. You cannot use the ‘undo’ command in life and edit again. Another quality of time is its equality. It works at the same speed/pace for both the wealthiest and the poorest. We can`t imagine how fast the time is. You wink your eye and the moment is past. You will never find back the time wasted by you. Time doesn’t give you chances. So when opportunity knocks at your door don’t turn around. Grab the opportunity with both…

The story also emanates a form of feminism. The whole story shows how soft-hearted most women are especially when they are enchanted by love. The story seemed to say that women are more vulnerable to being foolishly captivated when it comes to love. When females love, they give their everything. Once they fall, it would be very hard for them to get up. Loving here is defined as sharing with an open hand, giving until it hurts. Women, being emotional creatures are more likely to be swooned over by the feelings and are more likely to expose themselves to being hurt.…
