"Love Is in the Air" Bridget Jones's Diary and Pride and Prejudice
Love is in the air
Bridget Jones's diary and Pride and prejudice are two very similar stories but they still have a few differences. We have been watching the films in school and I'm going to write about the stories and compare them and find their similarities and differences.

Bridget Jones's Diary
This story is about Bridget Jones. She is a 32 year old clumsy single woman who, according to herself, drink to much and doesn't think before she speaks. She want to change her life for the better so she starts to write a diary where she writes about her everyday life. On a new years day party her mum wants her to meet the top-notch and recently divorced Mark Darcy. Their conversation is very awkward as Bridget talk way too much about all the wrong things. After their little chat Mark call her a verbally incontinent spinster who drinks like a fish, smokes like a chimney, and dresses like her mother. Bridget gets extremely offended and after that party she decides to try to find the man of her dreams and this man turns out to be someone unexpected.

Pride and Prejudice
This story is about the Bennet family who lives on the countryside of England during the 17th or 18th century. the Bennet family is consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet and their five daughters - Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty and Lydia. Mrs. Bennnet's highest wish is to see all of her girls get married with a nice and rich man but the next oldest sister, Elizabeth got other plans. She wants to find the man of her dreams. One night at a ball she meet Mr Darcy, a rich and proud man who thought that she was way out of his league. He didn't dance with anyone and he insulted Elizabeth by calling her ugly. Elizabeth still wants to find the man of her dreams but he is closer than she thinks.

Darcy's proposal initiates Elizabeth's internal struggle. She stubbornly adheres to her opinion of Darcy while his continual referrals to her social inferiority, interference with Jane and Bingley and disinheritance of Wickham fuel her anger. Elizabeth's prejudice against Darcy prevents her from considering any possibilities other than what she already believes. Elizabeth's defensive reaction to Darcy's simultaneous proposal and insults suggests a fear in realizing that she may have feelings for him, which she would be unable to act on because crossing the bar that separates them would be socially unacceptable.…

None of the Bennet girls have jobs, nor are they looking for any. All they’ve been clamoring for is to get married to someone quickly, which their mother, Mrs. Bennet, constantly reminds them to do. Elizabeth is the only one to challenge that convention, as she seems in no rush to get married and takes her time in carefully finding someone who can not only secure her financially, but suit her emotionally. Perhaps Jane Austen is criticizing the way in which 19th century England made women mere puppets in a society dominated by…

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen is set in the 18th century, when the future of society relied on social class. According to social class the relationship between Mr.Darcy and Elizabeth should have been impossible, but they are able to break through these restrictions. The novel is dominated by the progression of Elizabeth and Darcy’s relationship through the obstacles of breaking through social class. Jane Austen illustrates the restrictions of the social construct of class based on wealth along with her own views of social class in the fiction novel, Pride and Prejudice, through the relationship of Elizabeth and Mr.Darcy. The importance of social class to some characters is introduced in volume one of Pride and Prejudice through the treatment…

To begin with, Elizabeth is overcome with pride and prejudice. She has a very difficult time coming to a different conclusion of Darcy contrary to her first impression. "His character was decided. He was the proudest, most disagreeable man in the world, and everybody hoped that he would never come there again...Elizabeth remained with no very cordial feeling toward him" (8). For his part, Darcy looks down on Elizabeth for her place in society. He refers to her as common and not as agreeable as others (7-9). Darcy does not think she…

This novel, being written in the eighteenth century, still provides many current, controversial themes. What is marriage about? Why should it be pursued? Mrs. Bennet seems to think that fortune precedes love when it comes to marriage. When first speaking of Mr. Bingley, Mrs. Bennet shares her excitement by saying “a single man of large fortune;…what a fine thing for our girls!” (1). She finds it convenient for her daughters that the single Mr. Bingley has moved near to Longbourn. All she truly wants is to have her daughters married to respectable, wealthy men. Love, she feels, would be a lucky bonus. Because of this, the relationship between Mr. and Mrs. Bennet seems to be questionable as well.…

Bennet’s words to Mr. Bennet illustrate that a woman is not allowed to do certain things without permission of her husband. She said “Impossibile, Mr. Bennet, impossible, when I am not acquainted with him myself,...” and “ …I knew I should persuade you at last.” (Pg9) Here, according to Mrs. Bennet, it is impossible for her to introduce herself to Mr. Bingley unless Mr. Bennet meets him first; and secondly, she expresses her happiness when she successfully convinced her husband to go for the visiting trip. This depicts that men are superior in the society and they have more power in the family.…
