Los Angeles Traffic
Traffic problems in Los Angeles have been a topic of discussion for many years and there are many causes for this occurring problem. Have you ever been sitting in your car in bumper to bumper traffic wondering why traffic isn’t moving? Since Los Angeles is one of the biggest cities in the nation, it is natural that there are many people traveling to and from daily which causes heavy amounts of traffic in the morning and evening times each day. A drive that is only a few miles can sometimes take upwards of 2 hours or more depending on the time of your travel in Los Angles.
There are many reasons that cause this issue daily including anything from accidents to just plain stupidity. The most common reason for this problem is simply too many people trying to get to the same place at the same time. As a result, people commuting to and from Los Angeles must leave hours early just to make sure they are on time. For example, my mom used to work in east LA which was 35 miles from our house, she would leave at 4:30 a.m. to be at work by 5:15 a.m. She would go back to sleep in her car just so she would not have to sit in traffic. If she left later than 5:30 a.m. it was an almost guarantee she would be late. As for the commute home, she would leave at 3:30 p.m. to get home by 5:30 p.m. That means at least an extra 2 hours a day she spent just sitting in traffic if there wasn’t an accident or construction which would take even longer. Traffic accidents in LA are an all too common occurrence that can be caused from a number of reasons. One cause for accidents in LA is someone trying to merge onto the freeway or change lanes and they are not paying attention and hit the car in their blind spot. Another reason for accidents in LA is road rage, people are in such a hurry and they aren’t paying enough attention to the road and make mistakes that otherwise could be avoided. The biggest cause for accidents, in my opinion, is people on their cell phones. Talking or texting on

A problem that I think needs to be solved is traffic lights causing the back up of traffic. Traffic lights cause a delay in traffic and cause for traffic back up. It causes everyone to be late when there is no need for it. From personal experience I have been late of several occasions due to backed up traffic because of traffic lights. There are certain spots where traffic lights are not needed and they are only backing up traffic more than needed. Traffic lights turn red even when there is no traffic at the other end of the light. Traffic lights also cause a lot of accidents, such as someone running a red light, etc.…

Inexperience: Inexperience can cause accidents because people don’t know what they are doing and therefore can panic and cause collisions or can drive too fast for their skill level and cause collisions in that way. The worst thing people can do is drive to slow for example if someone is driving to slow they could merge into a roadway driving to slow and be rear ended. There have been many occurrences of people driving with inexperience and causing collision due to it. The easiest way to reduce collisions caused by inexperienced drivers is to have them start on a private road and a parking lot until they are comfortable in the vehicle then having them start driving in different conditions until they are comfortable enough to try driving with varying levels of traffic.…

Commuters pose a challenge to town planners for various reasons, although they account for a small percentage of travelers. Commuting takes place in two faces: the morning rush hour and the afternoon rush hour. This means that during these phases, the transport system undergoes much stress because of the spike in the number of users. This can be credited to the fact that people live and work in different places and that there is a uniform work time in the country. Work starting at 8-9 a.m. and ending at 5-6 p.m., this means that commuters have some special needs and requirement in so far as traveling is concerned. The main cause of most car accidents today is because of cell phone usage while driving. Drivers are focusing more on the screens of their cell phones rather than the road through their windshields. If the drivers are fully focused on the road it will eliminate most of the accidents that happen. Cell phones can cause distractions in several ways. As the population increases yearly, it also shows an increase of many different vehicles being in use, this being another major reasons behind traffic congestion. Over populated roads and highways during morning rush hour, causes many delays for people trying to get to work, meeting, school and etc. A Torontonian spends a minimum of four to five hours of their time weekly stuck in traffic, due to slow movement of vehicles, 62% of the time individuals are late to work (Sewell, 2009). During, the winter seasons the numbers of hours would double, since the public would have to drive slowly due to slippery grounds. In order for the commuters to get to their destination on time they have to add an extra hour to their usual traveling time, in order to avoid any delays. As vehicles continue to make immediate stops during rush hour without being cautious of other vehicles it results to major collisions throughout the Greater Toronto Area. In total, 40% of the collisions that occurred in Greater Toronto Area in 2015, was due to over populated traffic and not being able to come to full complete immediate stop on time (Phillip, 2015). If a collision does occurs the road must be closed, causing there to be one less lane for the cars to travel on. After a major collision occur, the emergency crew are expected to be…
