Summary
In chapter 9 Simon awakens and once he’s on his feet he notices the lord of the flies. He then begins to shout into the clearing asking “what else is there to do”(145). After receiving no reply he begins to stagger his way up the mountain. When he reaches the top he notices the body of the parachutist and realizes that the boys have mistaken the beastie for the parachutist. Simon then untangles the lines from the rock and sets the parachute free. Simon turns toward the beaches and notices that the boys have shifted their location on the island. Simon assumes that the boys have changed locations so they can be further away from the beast and he begins to stagger his way back down the mountain towards the boys to tell them about his his discovery. Meanwhile,
Piggy suggests that himself and Ralph should go to Jacks party to make sure nothing goes wrong. When they arrived at the party Jack offers them some food. Afterwards Jack asked if anybody else wanted to join his tribe.
Ralph points out that he is still chief but Ralph ignores his point and rambles on. Ralph mentions that he has the conch but Jack is quick to point out that he doesn't actually have the conch and the conch rule doesn't apply at that end of that island. Rain clouds begin to form and lightning begins to flash. Ralph questions Jack on the shelters. In response jack commands the boys to do their dance. Jack stumbled his way into the open space and the boys followed. Roger begins to act like a pig and the boys grab on to their weapons.They begin to move in a circle and they start chanting words. The littluns moved outside the circle. Ralph and Piggy join in on the dancing and chanting. Soon after Roger retires from being a pig and becomes a hunter like the other boys leaving the ring empty. Soon a figure begins to emerge from the the forest and
