Long Way Gone Conflict
The book a long way gone takes place in Sierra Leone and this war was started in 1991. This started when the (ruff) with support of special forces form (Npfl), intervened into Sierra Leone in an attempt to over throw the josephs momoh government. It was between the rebels and the government. The people of Sierra Leone were effected because the rebels would either kill them or make them fight for them and they would also destroy their village. The conflict is surviving the war and finding a safe place. This war ended because the UN jumped in and took all their gun’s.
Ishmal is the author and protagonist. Ishmal is form Sierra Leone and he was their when the civil war broke out. Ishmal was also a regular teenager he did raps and dances with his friends. He had to do go un his own because he got separated from his parents and eventually gets separated from his brother. Ishmal had to deal with the evils of war. Were ever he would go he would get judged. This war changed his life because he is no longer free he has to coastally run because the rebels destroy villages and take the people hostage. He usually escapes but he finally gets captured. I believe the conflict for Ishmal would be being separated from his family, going to a safe place, being judged were ever he would go.

They think that all kids walking around villages are evil. It became hard for him to form relationships or to act as a normal teenage boy because he was unable to get past the judgments people had gave him. Being judged is harmful for a boy who has already lost so much. First the separation, then the constant running, and now being shunned. It stopped him from having a childhood that every kid should have. For example as stated in the book, “you children have become little devils, but you came to the wrong “ (page66
