My Lollipop Moment
Thich Nhat Hanh once said, “Fear keeps us focused on the past or worried about the future. If we can acknowledge our fear, we can realize that right now we are okay. Right now, today, we are still alive, and our bodies are working marvelously. Our eyes can still see the beautiful sky. Our ears can still hear the voices of our loved ones.” I owe my sanity and happiness to this wonderful man who helped me overcome the fear and anxiety that plagued me on an everyday basis. Yet, my actual lollipop moment came from a very different source- one that was a complete accident.
Similar to Drew Dudley’s lollipop moment, mine came to me from a person who has no idea the impact they had and still continue to have on my life. This person, whose name is Chris, entered my life when I had just hit rock bottom and was floundering in a vast ocean of anxiety. One day, while trying to deal with my anxiety, I came across a video on YouTube. To this day, I still have no idea what prompted me to click on that video and watch it. But I did, and that was the moment my life began its rise out of the hole of misery I had been living in. So what was the video already?! In all honesty, it was just an interview he was participating in, and he happened to have once suffered through what I was. One may wonder why this person, of all the people in the world who have also suffered through anxiety just like me, had such an impact when no other person was able to. My closest guess is because his method was just so simple.
That day was a cool afternoon at university and I was outside trying to calm my racing heart and relax. Out of desperation, I stuck my headphones in my ears and clicked my music application. Instead, I hit the YouTube application and decided to just look up something amusing. I can’t remember how I found that video, but it popped up and I decided to watch it. The interviewer asks along the lines of, what advice

Life is comprised of a series of learning profound learning experiences. On that stands out occurred last year in seventh grade. Two friends and I decided we wanted to try something new, to learn how to play basketball! We made that decision mainly because we wanted to do an activity together for the winter term, and seventh graders didn't have the option of doing the winter school play. We were very hesitant; only one of us had any experience playing basketball, and we didn't think it would be very fun to run up and down a court trying to get a ball in a hoop. Still we kept an open mind and began to learn how to play.…

An event I've experienced that was life changing was when I obtained the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America. It was an affirmation of years of disciplined work and study to have such a prestigious honor bestowed upon me. In scouting, I developed various moral and ethical tenants that have shaped my foundation in life. Tenants like integrity, honor, reverence, faith in God, a man's role and his responsibility to his family, and a nearly innumerable quantity of experiences growing under the leadership of the Boy Scouts of America have molded me into who I am today in my very core of being. The realization of my dream to become an Eagle Scout took 11 years to obtain, so I'm no stranger to adversity or perseverance. To my memory,…

Ever since I can remember I spent almost ever y day at my Grandparents house. They live right down the road from my family and me, and that is how they got the title “Grandma and Grandpa down the road”. They lived in a small house three bedrooms, one bathroom, and a small living room with a fire place that can worm the coldest heart. And in their back yard stood a shed filled with old farm equipment and stray cats with their kittens that I would try to catch every day. They are now both 78 years old and sadly not very healthy. My grandpa was diagnosed with lung cancer in October, and it changed my grandpa’s life, my family’s life, and my life.…

Something difficult I have gone through that changed me. Although, in the beginning it was extremely difficult to cope, I believe this experience changed me for the better. It has shaped me into the person I am today. Being the oldest of three in a broken family has forced me to become a role model, and taught me to take on large responsibilities. I learned how to use my independence for the better of my siblings. I learned how to cope with difficult people, I learned how to put on a happy face, I learned how to leave my family life at home. I learned how to be happy with my friends and at school. I learned how to smile through the day, ultimately being content with my life. I gained the strength to look at the pros and not the cons. This unfortunate situation has caused me to become a more positive person. If I could give one piece of advice to…
