Song
Fallacy
Explanation
False Dilemma (False Dichotomy) When the arguer sets up the situation so it looks like there are only two choices. In this song, the singer have to choose if either she’ll chose the one she loves or the one that loves her. It’s a fallacy because it’s not only the choices left behind. Two choices are presented here but it doesn’t mean that it’s the only choice left. She can chose not to pick them both because the one she loves didn’t love her after all and she doesn’t love the one that loves her.
Waking up in Vegas by Katy Pery “shut up and put your money where your mouth is that’s what you got for waking up in Vegas get up and shake the glitter of your clothes now that’s what you get for waking up in Vegas”
False Cause (Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc) When assuming that because B comes after A, A caused B. Of course, sometimes one event really does cause another one that comes later. In this song, the singer states that they got wasted and broke because of waking up in Vegas. This is a false cause because it is what they get for partying in Vegas last night. Waking up in the said city is just another effect.
What makes you beautiful by One Direction “so co come on you got it wrong to prove I’m right I put it in a song I don’t know why you’re being shy and turn away when I look into your eyes everyone else in the room can see it everyone else but you”
Stacking the deck When the speaker/writer tries to prove a point by focusing only one side of the argument while ignoring the other; the speaker stacks the evidence in his/her favor by listing only those elements that support his/her case.
