Load Shedding Analysis
AN SMART LOAD SHEDDING SYSTEM DESIGN IN MASSIVE INDUSTRIES

ABSTRACT: Load shedding system is the traditional strategy used to avoid the power system disturbance such as tripping of generators. The tripping of generator occurs when the generator fails to supply the desired demand that is the demand is greater than the generation. In this condition, the power supply available will not be able to contribute power to existing power system. In order to avoid the overloading of another generator which will ultimately collapse the power system so it is primary to reduce the load less than generator capacity. With the developing technology, automation plays a supreme function in industries since those process and system are much

This load overthrow results in the generator shortcoming condition. Common breakdown which cause disturbance to the power system includes faults, loss of generation, switching errors, lightning strikes, etc. When the generator in the industry does not meet the load demand. The other generator which supplies more than the load requirement, then the balance power generated by this generator serves as a backup for the generator whose supply is less than the demand. Automation is a human control operation is delegated to technical equipment to get the desired results. Automation is used in the industrial process and applications in order to achieve production improvement, better quality of product, time and cost reduction. Reuse, integration and flexibility are essential to adapt a rapidly changing global market. There are many consequences of a major technical revolution, even today the industries suffer a lot due to these ramifications the machines are replaced largely in a wider perspective in the technical environment. Ascribable to the global competitive environment, the companies are forced to switch over to newer technologies instead of an older one. One among the newer technology is automation. A global trend is created by industrial automation in manufacturing industries these trends created because they …show more content…
This reactive power is fundamental to gain electrical energy form mechanical energy (and vice versa) in the rotating machines (Alternators and motors).for clearance of fault, it takes few time. whenever the system is tripped it should be immediately supplied form any other source. B. Loads supplied by this alternator:

D. SYSTEM DESCRIPTION in order to perform load shedding in industries where sum of loads are in service based on priorities . we have attached a sample process for load shedding using brainy system (SCADA). This application includes three alternator each capable of 15Megawatt arranged according to the priority . The power generated by the section 1 alternator is first and foremost important to carry out the function as per priority. The first section alternator utilizes the entire 15MW whereas the second section utilizes 10 MW and the third one utilizes 7MW out of total capacity of the alternator.
As per the assumption section 1 has following loads with priorities of low, high and medium levels.
Low priority:
• Light loads capable of 2Mega watts each
Medium

Generator reactances are used for two distinctly different purposes. One use is to calculate the flow of symmetrical short circuit current in coordination studies. A second use for generator reactances are in specifications that limit the sub-transient reactance to 12% or less in order to limit the voltage distortion induced by non-linear loads. For either short circuit or harmonic distortion analyses, the stated reactances will need to be converted to a common base to make valid comparisons. Typically, generator reactances are published in per unit values on a specified base alternator rating. Where the generator set rating differs from the alternator base rating it will be necessary to convert the per unit values from the alternator base rating to the generator set rating. For selecting circuit breakers with adequate AIC rating the maximum asymmetrical short circuit current to flow in the first half cycle may be approximated from the generator sub-transient reactance (x"d ) and a factor to account for DC offset.…

Real power reserves will then be further discussed. Reserve is categorized into two, normal operation reserve and disturbance reserve at which it is dependent on the cause of the reserve requirement. It is based on how fast the reserve capacity is available for the system operation. Firstly, the instantaneous reserve consists of frequency control reserve and momentary disturbance reserve, at which available within 30 sec. Frequency control reserve keeps the frequency within tolerance ± 0.1 Hs where used frequency control reserve is after 15mins replaced by fast reserve. Furthermore, momentary disturbance reserve replaces the lost production of tripped units or outages of important transmission lines. The same goes to momentary disturbance reserve at which 15mins is needed for replacing with fast disturbance reserve. NORDEL has PD1b with 200 MW less than the decisive fault case, relying on the consumption, frequency and voltage…

In a peaking power application, DG is operated between 200-3000 hours per year to reduce the overall electricity costs. It is operated to limit the power peak in the network and in this case the DG application can be called peak shaving. Therefore, DG units will be operated to reduce the utility’s demand charges, to defer buying electricity during high-price periods, or to be allowed for lower rates from power providers by smoothing site demand [], [].…

Automation is a phenomenon that is taking over the computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) world. It is virtually a process that is automatic, requiring no human intervention to perform its tasks – robots integrated into manufacturing. When deciding whether or not to incorporate automation into a system, a couple of factors have to be considered: the rate of production and the quality of production. Automation can be good or bad depending on how those two parameters are controlled and fulfilled. In certain processes, having too much automation can be bad due to the inability of a company to keep up with the costs and in others, the level of automation cannot produce enough quantity fast enough to keep up with expenses. Therefore, a complete analysis of a CIM must be done in order to optimize automation in manufacturing.…
