Living Off Campus
Living off Campus
Nowadays, living off campus is very popular among college students. When students go to college, which is far from their families, some of them would choose to live off campus instead of living in the dorms. Compared to living on the campus, living off campus is much cheaper and comfortable. You will have more independence, freedom, privacy, and space; you do not have to share your bedroom and bathroom with others. Furthermore, you can make your own meals if you live off campus. I am also one of the students living in an apartment off campus. As one of the students who live in an apartment off campus, I really benefit a lot from it. However, it might not be as simple as you expect when you try to find a place to live off campus. Thus, we need to be patient and do the following steps one by one, which enables us to live in a comfortable life off campus.
The first thing you need to do is to get the permission of living off from your school. Not all the students are allowed to live off campus. There are some permission requirements you should meet if you want to do that. In most colleges, in order to obtain the permission, students should be in junior or senior year. According to the PSU housing policy, students under 21 years of age with fewer than 24 college credit hours required to live in University Housing facilities their first year of attendance (“Housing Possibilities”). The reason they provide for this kind of policy might be that it will be much easier for students to adjust themselves to their college life if they live in the dorms when they first come to school. Once students are able to deal with their study well, they are allowed to live off campus.
If you meet the requirement of your school and already get the permission of living off campus, than you can move into the next step—deciding to live either in a house or in an apartment. A house is an independent living facility, while some apartments could be in the same building.

During the last three weeks I observed the difference between how students live on campus and how students live off campus. The reason behind my decision to observe this was because I was curious to see the pros and cons of both ways of living. However, the last two years I was living on campus so instead of studying my way of living on campus I studied my five roommates and how they function daily. For one week I lived off campus with some friends and observed how they function and perform tasks on a daily basis. My research method for studying people who dorm was to follow them and see how they function whenever I was not in class. However, my research method for studying those who commuted to school, I went with them whenever I was not in class to see how they functioned on…

A student will not have to follow as many rules if they choose to live off campus. Living in a person own apartment or shared house will typically have more space and can offer more privacy than a dorm room. A person’s own place means new responsibilities, such as cleaning up around the house, paying utility bills and being a responsible renter. Residence halls have several rules that students must abide by when living on campus. These rules are usually designed for the overall protection and safety of the residents. Living off campus will give students the freedom from those rules and allow them to set…

When I first moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma to attend Oklahoma State University I could immediately feel change. Coming from a place like Oklahoma City, Oklahoma has very many differences than Stillwater. Most people actually say once you move off to college you will lose things like personal space, personal property, privacy, etc. In some cases, that is not always true; for example, I never really had my own personal space until moving to college. Moving to college is like having your own living space to get away from the world for a bit. That is when privacy kicks in. If you live in a traditional dorm you are likely to have a roommate. Having a roommate may invade your privacy a bit, but it is really not that bad. Also having a roommate may…

Off-campus housing is an attractive alternative to commuting and dorming, which, if one can remain focused on school and manage his or her own affairs, can be a less expensive alternative to both living at home and in a dorm. Living off-campus is as real as it gets: students pay bills, do their own laundry, buy their own food, pay rent, and essentially support themselves. This can be a blessing and a curse, as a missed rent check or lost keys can have serious consequences. Movers.com states,…
