Living Digitally: Embodiment in Virtual Worlds
Living Digitally The world around us is surrounded with technology. Humans cannot live their lives without the necessary need for technology. Kids used to play with blocks and toys but not that their entertainment has transformed into ipods, tablets, video games, and TV. Technology is the new desire for kids to have and is a new revolution in the world. Now kids even are required to use technology for education. This is going to be the biggest change to the way we live making education transfer from books to screens. One day we will have laptops, tv’s, tablets and tons of more technological benefits that will make take education to a new world. Just imagine having robots as teachers and never touching a pencil in your life. This is the way the world will someday be and how living digitally could effect the way we live. @ Home

I inserted an optical disk that has digital photos into my computer and my computer did not read it. The first step i would do to find out what is wrong is check if my computer supports that type of disk.if it says so that it does i would then check the disk for damages or if it is dirty and clean the disk if it has any dust or smudges. if still will not work i would try inserting it into another computer and see if it will read the disk. Finally i will try getting a new disk.

@ Work After a power outage and my computer my computer won’t turn on from pressing the power button. The first step I would do to figure this out would be to check the outlet to make sure it is still plugged in. After that i would check the wires for any damages. If no damages then i would try unplugging the power cable from the computer and plugging it back in. If that still does not do anything i would try using a different outlet because a cable in the outlet might of been blown and not working. If it is still not working then i would call for technical support.

The 21st century is a remarkable time where everything is changing from tradition to technology. This has a profound effect on our youth and will have a greater effect on future generations. These times will shape the future generations for either a technology-reliant generation or shape and mold the future of tradition. The effect of young people having technology is overly apparent to teachers and their parents. Their kids get bored with things they loved to do as kids. The difference is they have television and many other technologies growing up that have shaped their minds into being entertained. If they are not they will ignore, throw fits or simply not learn from the experience. Neil Postman warns in his book Amusing Ourselves to Death that education presented as entertainment undermines tradition. Traditions like learning from your teacher instead of an online application. Traditions like learning from the outside world around you by exploring it instead of digitally exploring the internet. Today teachers are attempting to turn technology into learning devices but much like Postman’s “rear-view mirror thinking”, the iPad and related devices are used for entertainment. The impact technologies like the iPad and iPod and introducing video games for “educational benefit” are not helping them socially, emotionally or educationally as much as harming them.…

The new generation of kids are being affected by technology enormously throughout the growth of technology. Ruth states in her article that a study done by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that children from the age of eight to eighteen are spending more than seven and a half hours a day on technology (Ruth 1). Which affects the children because it cause them to do less physical activity. She also states “The danger with our technology-obsessed kids, Greenfield warns, is that they are no longer accustomed to the full range of mess and meaningful human interaction” (Ruth 2). Kids no longer know how to interact with one another, because they are stuck on technology. Ruth mention in her article how social technology is molding children's brain…

Every year it seems like companies come out with bigger and better cell phones, computers, cars, and iPods. Just when you thought you had the best, something better comes out. This is because technology has advanced since past generations. As the future generation, we have the role of creating bigger and better things. Since technology is advancing, our education also has to advance. Our grandparent’s idea of a computer was a lead pencil and a notebook. In the future our school list is going to consist of laptops. My generation is so much more complex. We have to learn how to use new technology, otherwise it is pointless. Our minds and thinking have to be able to…

Advances in technology cause great controversy. These controversies are centered around the influences technology has on the people who engage in different types of technology. In the article titled “Out Semi-Literate Youth? Not So Fast” by Andrea Lunsford, she explains the importance of technology and how, in most cases, technology is able to help develop students. In another article titled “Hal and Me” by Nicholas Carr, he stresses the point that technology is pushing ‘the good life’ to the wayside. Although both authors have different opinions when it comes to technology, they both agree that changes are occurring due to technological influences on peoples’ brains. Technology plays an extremely large role in the lives of the people in this world, it is important that everyone understands that changes that come with the advances of technology.…

Whereas I did not grow up with computers, but just introduced, my children are growing up with technology and computers at the forefront. It is becoming a necessity to know and understand the technological age. Postman has not convinced me that technology and computers are evil and destructive to the world, as I see things differently. I see the growing organizations that can now take their businesses globally due to the expansion in technology. I see the clothing industries, for instance, becoming more efficient and advanced by being able to create different looks and cuts and set distribution…

In Mizuko Ito Et Al’s article “new media allow for a degree of freedom and autonomy for youth that is less apparent in a classroom setting” I believe that with the use of technology we can do anything we put our minds to. The technology allows for people who can not go to school or can not afford it, can go somewhere else to get that information. It also allows to give feedback and opinions on topics that might benefit others. I believe there will not be a need from a classroom and a teacher. The information will be on the internet.…
