The Little Shop of Horrors Critique I. Plot a. Descriptive
The plot of The Little Shop of Horrors is very captivating. As the play goes on, different people get fed to the plant one by one under different circumstances. Seymore in the end feels the worst when his love Audrey gets eaten by the plant and he regrets the fame and fortune that has come from it all. b. Prescriptive
The Little Shop of Horrors would have been better if Audrey had not been eaten by the plant as well and she could have lived happily ever after with Seymore. Also, Seymore should have fought more for the death of the dentist; I feel it came too easily to him. II. Character a. Descriptive i. Seymore is a good guy but, tries too hard to get fame and fortune and in the end loses everything because of it. ii. Audrey is a sweet girl but, wants too much to be loved and because of this settles for the wrong guys. The dentist that she is dating in the play ends up abusing her. b. Prescriptive i. Seymore would have been a better actor if he had spoken up more. Some of the time, I felt like what he said was irrelevant. ii. Audrey would have been better if she would not have been so whiny throughout the whole play. She could have played her part and spoken up more. III. Theme a. Descriptive
The theme of The Little Shop of Horrors is a comment as to the extremes people will go to in order to achieve success. From the beginning of the play, it seems that Seymore will do just about anything to achieve fame and fortune. He even feeds the plant his own blood until he is no longer able. As he gets desperate, he goes to Audrey’s abusive boyfriend with a gun ready to do anything to get food for his famous plant Audrey II. IV. Diction a. Descriptive
Most of the people in The Little Shop of Horrors speak Northern English, although some of the people speak uneducated English. Some of the girls that were on the streets spoke of that

It’s as though the time in and around the house would stand still if it weren’t for the townspeople making it move with their judgments and actions. Emily Grierson and her solitary, isolated life was the talk of the town. “Alive, Miss Emily had been a tradition, a duty, and a care; a sort of hereditary obligation upon the town”(84). Even from the beginning she’s not made out to be a human with free will but a plaything of the towns people, who were the driving force in the piece. The story is written in the perspective of the town looking down on her from above, and toying with her and her life; very similar to a god-like figure. The people in the town, throughout her life and after her father passed away “felt sorry for her”(86). They were so involved in the judgment of her personal life. “When she got to be thirty and was still single, we were not pleased exactly, but vindicated; even with insanity in the family she wouldn’t have turned down all of her chances…”(86). And then along comes a suitor that inevitably breaks her heart. The town dictates what happens to this woman. They control her life and the effect it has is devastating. They say “poor Emily”(87), the town thought she “carried her head high enough-even when we believed she was fallen”(87). Society here is providing a foreshadowing that they brought upon her. When she went to go get poison, they didn’t stop her, they said “she will kill herself”(88), and “it would be the best thing”(88). The town and society condemn her. They are what drive her to do what she did. And at the end, it’s her funeral and they find that in her upstairs bedroom the man she married, “lay in the bed”(90). Dead by poison. The town and the society around her drove her to madness with their constant judgment and condemnation, they controlled her. She was the odd…

\When Myop wanders off by herself she comes across a dead man, and is instantly shocked. Then she looks up in the tree to see the rotted remains of the rope. “Myop laid down her flowers”. Alice in Wonderland is filled several times over with examples and uses of symbolism. Nearly every object or character functions as a symbol, although most of them are ambiguous and left to the imagination. One of the most obvious aspects of puberty is the physical changes, mainly noticeable by the growth spurts that teenagers often undergo. Alice was no exception to the uncomfortable amount of growing. “In fact, she was now rather more than nine feet high” (Carroll 27). Another prominent symbol that Carroll used was the garden and Alice’s perpetual quest to arrive there. Every teenager, especially during their younger years, latch their minds onto something they want, a car or new gaming system perhaps, and cannot think of anything else until they get it. The garden represents adolescents’ strong desires for any number of objects. The example is augmented by the fact that she does not particularly enjoy the incident once she finally finds a way into the garden, an ironically accurate facet of teenage life and their volatile behavior and moods.…
