Mi Ultimo Adios
Isinalin ni Nick Joaquin
Land that I love: farewell: O land the sun loves:
Pearl in the sea of the Orient: Eden lost to your brood! Gaily go I to present you this hapless hopeless life:
Were it more brilliant: had it more freshness, more bloom: Still for you would I give it: would give it for your good! Enchantment of my life: my ardent avid obsession:
To your health! cries the soul, so soon to take the last leap:
To your health! O lovely: how lovely: to fall that you may rise! to perish that you may live! to die beneath you skies! and upon your enchanted ground the eternities to sleep! Should you find someday somewhere on my gravemound, fluttering among tall grasses, a flower of simple fame:

On the field of battle, fighting with delirium,

caress it with your lips and you kiss my soul:

others give you their lives without doubts, without gloom. I shall feel on my face across the cold tombstone:

The site nought matters: cypress, laurel or lily:

of your tenderness, the breath; of your breath, the flame. gibbet or open field: combat or cruel martyrdom are equal if demanded by country and home.

Suffer the moon to keep watch, tranquil and suave, over me:

I am to die when I see the heavens go vivid,

suffer the dawn its flying lights to release:

announcing the day at last behind the dead night.

suffer the wind to lament in murmurous and grave manner: If you need color – color to stain that dawn with, let spill my blood: scatter it in good hour:

and should a bird drift down and alight on my cross, suffer the bird to intone its canticle of peace.

and drench in its gold one beam of the newborn light. Suffer the rains to dissolve in the fiery sunlight
My dreams when a lad, when scarcely adolescent:

and purified reascending heavenward bear my cause: my dreams when a young man, now with vigor inflamed: suffer a friend to grieve I perished so soon:

were to behold you one

“Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night”, a villanelle by Dylan Thomas, is a poem that explores the vulnerability associated with growing old and inching toward death. There are six stanzas in this poem with a simple rhyme structure that belies the complex message of the poem. In general, it is apparent that this is a poem about death and dying but when examined closer, it becomes clear that it is also about life and how it is lived. Through its structure as well as the use and choice of language that invokes certain images and employs certain techniques, it arouses deep imagery.…

“The dreadful martyrdom must run its course” alludes to the fact that bad events are impossible to avoid. One can’t live life in peace, a troublesome time will be progressive throughout everyone’s lifespan. Moreover, the cries of the needy and splash of the endangered can be ignored by one’s who possess traits of selfishness and neglect. Distinctively, Williams’s concise poem represents the same morals, but presents his ideas in a more shortened manner.…

What would be more important, the safety of an animal, or our own safety? Each day many animals cross our roads but sometimes the unfortunate happens when an animal accidently crossed the road when we are passing by. What do you do? In “Thoughts on Capital Punishment” by Rod Mckuen and “Traveling Through the Dark” by William Stafford, there are some similarities that help the reader compare the two poems, but there are also a number of differences that set them apart for example Stafford’s poem is much more serious than Mckuen’s poem. Although in both poems, the poets show sentimentality for the animals being killed by drivers, they differ in imagery, persona, and tone.…

In the first part of the poem writer personifies the sun (“As if the mighty sun wept tears of joy”), opposing the sun to cold and dead winter. The idea of death is traced throughout the poem. At the very end of the poem Thomas uses different connotations of death, such as “silence” and “darkness”, as if winter is holding back the start of spring and the new life. Also, author is using antonyms as “sang or screamed”, “hoarse or sweet or fierce or soft” to emphasize the contract of spring and winter. Using alliteration (“they sang, on gates, on ground they sang”) and assonance (“hoard of song before the moon”). adds sonority and dynamic to the poem and helps to create an imitation of birdsong. As well, describing winter, writer resorts to the use of metaphor…

What is meant by being alone? Some would describe being alone in a figurative manner, such as being with other people but feeling alone inside. While others would give being alone a literal definition, such as actually being isolated from other humans. In the poem "Alone," Edgar Allan Poe talks about being alone in terms of not being able to experience things as others do. Edgar Allan Poe had a dark, disturbing, and somewhat twisted manner of writing. Some readers and critics consider his writing pessimistic. His writing also has a sense of honesty and sadness to it.…

In the poem he continually discusses that death is rage, a curse, etc. These inevitable fears are first introduced in the first stanza when he states, “Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” This first stanza opens with saying one should not give into death, and when it comes, it should come with a full life. These ideas are featured once again in the last stanza. The author reveals the true purpose about the poem in this stanza, stating, “And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” In this stanza he is saying that he believes his father should fight, and that he does not care what his father has to do to fight. Giving up the fight is like being a lawn mower in a field of gardeners, in the end those who fight have a greater…

To recollect your memory is to exhume your cold corpse from a marble mausoleum and recite Vespers over the echo of your once beating heart. Oh, your beating heart. On evenings that were too cold or too windy for comfort, I would rest my head on the nape of your neck and embrace your body with my trembling arms. My palm would find your chest and the seismic resonance of your heart would give me that relieving reminder that you were indeed real. There was never a day where you could not satisfy my yearning for company.…

The company I chose to do my research study on is Spa. I was employed with Spa for about four years, spending two years at their corporate headquarters located in a busy neighborhood in lower Manhattan, and two years at one of their busiest spas located in midtown Manhattan. During my time with the company I did notice a difference between the corporate and spa atmosphere . Ironically, the corporate office seemed more relaxed than the spa. Most of the employees dressed casually, sometimes even wearing jeans and sneakers. Everyone was very easy to get along with. During the holidays there would be festive activities, like secret Santa during Christmas, potluck lunch the day before Thanksgiving, and pumpkin carving and costume contests for Halloween. I was surprised how lenient they were with the extent of the costume contest, I happened to win dressed up in my homemade Oompa Loompa costume with my face painted orange white eyebrows, and I forgot my socks at home so I painted my legs too! Even the president of the company donned a jester outfit. Every employee’s birthday was celebrated on the actual day with cake for everyone to share.…
