Different motifs are displayed in the story including territorial dominance, hunger and thirst as well as rituals. The story is well done to illustrate the peaceful coexistence of different religions. Additionally, it illustrates that desperate times call for desperate measures as Pi had to completely change his lifestyle in order to cope with life in the sea.
