Introductory Essay for the Literature Scrapbook My journey through English Literature comes many thoughts and questions on the knowledge behind the writing. What is English Literature? English Literature was first produced in England from the introduction of Old English by the Anglo-Saxons in the 5th century to present day (angelfire.com). Literature goes back to 450 to 1066 much of which is oral form, and of poetry. Reading literature will take you back to the time it was written and give you satisfaction reading it, giving the reader feelings towards what is being expressed. Throughout my learning experience with English literature I want to be able to comprehend and excel the understanding of writing from the past all over the world, studying each piece as a learning experiment to fully recognize the content and history behind it. The way the writing is spoken and terms used in the piece would reflect on the era it was written. Some of the past English Literature writers I had learned about would be William Shakespeare, John Milton, Edgar Allen Poe, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Charles Dickens, Emily Bronte, Mark Twain, J.K. Rowling, Stephen King, and etc. The main question I want to have for this journey would be, how to read the text thoroughly and be able to understand the meaning behind the old English work, reason being is because of the literary terms used is not being used in the present day English literature. At the end of the course I want to be able to interpret the work from the authors and be able to answer questions on what is behind the writing, what it means, why they wrote it, and fully be able to tell my readers the meaning behind the piece. The study of English Literature is still important and

The question of what is literature and why we study it is a very difficult question to answer. This because there is no simple, or arguably completely correct, answer to what literature is. I believe literature is anything written down with the intent for it to be read by others for enjoyment or knowledge. The study of literature is important to us so we can try to get an idea of what life is like the perspective of the person writing the literature we study.…
