Literary Devices Used In Abraham's Use Of Similes
Simile: Similes are used in comparative figurative language. They make direct comparisons between the two objects similarities, these are usually distinct and different. Similarly, metaphors are another literary device used to compare two objects, and they also work in a similar way. Unlike metaphors though, similes use the words “like” or “as” to make their comparisons. Take the phrase the room was as calm as a twister. The simile here compares the rooms calmness to a twist using the word “as.” However, since twisters are quite chaotic this implies that the room was, as well, and that it, in fact, is not at all calm.

Example: “16 and said, ‘I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, …show more content…
These symbols reveal that the Lord will multiply the number of Abraham’s descendants to unreachable numbers. Confirmation of this is offered by the fact that he is comparing their numbers to stars and sand, these are items whose numbers are too large for you to even begin to imagine counting all of them. The messenger’s use of this simile in God’s blessing makes his power and might evident. What they promise is simply too grand to be fulfilled by earthly means; thus, he shows us that God is the only one who can fulfill them and reveals to us God’s power. The Lord blesses Abraham and his descendants, but take into consideration that God has already blessed Abraham by letting him keep his son. Additionally, The Lord hands out a glorious blessing of countless descendants and their good fortune. From this, we can conclude that he indeed loves Abraham very much, and is pleased that he was willing to sacrifice his son in his faith. Using the simile of Abraham’s descendants becoming “as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore” Genesis prevails in leaving us in further awe and understanding of God’s majesty, power, and
