Korea lies in the eastern part of Asia. This peninsula is divided into two countries: North Korea and South Korea. Although there is a division of landscape, government, and culture, the bulk of people in Korea consider themselves a part of the Korean nation. Regardless of that, the countries do have their differences. The entire peninsula is cut off from Northeast China by rugged mountains and sizable rivers (Rowntree 365). The north suffers from heavy deforestation, however it has more natural resources. The south has made extensive reforestation efforts post WWII and so they have more greenery. In terms of culture, there are more intense differences. In the South, k-pop and Korean drams have gone global. The culture has appealed to people worldwide. Meanwhile, North Korea remains somewhat in isolation. What’s more, North Koreans attempt to flee into Northeast China, quite often. Yet no one flees South Korea. This shows that there are different cultures and levels of comfort in each…

I just finish reading the novel Links by Nuruffin Farah, and it is an intriguing story. The characters and incidences in this book are depicted vividly by Farah and at times, I began to believe that they were more than just fictions. I know that Links is a work of fiction that is set against the backdrop of actual events; however, the situations described in the book were very realistic. While reading this novel, the main character Jeebleh took on the role of a liaison between myself and the political crisis of Mogadishu (referred to as Mogadiscio in the novel) that dominates the narrative. The journey that Farah takes the reader on in his story is one that creates links between the individual and the artistic determination as well as links between the novel and the nation state.…

Four miles SSW from the iconic Hollywood sign and just about the physical center of the City of Angels is Koreatown. Koreatown has the largest South Korean population outside of the country itself. With such a high concentration of these richly cultured peoples came many korean style restaurants and other eateries.…

Reliable source writings are everywhere, whether it be on a website or in a textbook all authors claim whatever they have to say is true, and they claim firsthand accounts. How can one be sure of themselves that any one of these authors is actually telling the truth? Some accounts can never truly be proven false or true, but evidence can lead some to come to conclusions themselves. In the two stories, or reliable source writings, Of Plymouth Plantation written by William Bradford; or The Interesting Narrative of the Life of OlaudahEquianowritten by OlaudahEquiano, both authors claim to have experienced what they wrote about firsthand. But how can one be sure that each is a “reliable source”. It all boils down to what the reader wants to believe.…

    • Is the source reliable? How do you know? This source is not reliable because it is not based on fact and only based on the author opinion but it has some reliable information in it because a clinical theory was presented and the information was based on the theory. If the source information was based solely on facts then it would be considered a reliable source. Majority of the source information is reliable but everything based on opinion I would not recommend the use of that particular information in the source.…

Targeted advertising is advertisement that is placed to reach consumers based on various traits like demographics, firmograhpics, and behavior variables. These ads are ranked based on relevance which is determined by how often the ads were clicked on by the computer user. This was a push forward for the advertising industry because it provided valuable feedback to advertisers and helped influence selling. For example, potential customers who search for information on a topic will see these intrusive ads without them even having to search for a product or service. It will just show up based on their search. This can oppose a threat to newspapers and TV ad campaigns because this advertising eliminates the waste of most of the mass advertising being viewed by a vast audience with no interest in the product. The cost of TV ads can sometimes cost millions of dollars while it is only gaining maybe 100 new first-class customers. TV and newspaper ads cannot compete with targeted ads because they can effectively reach the audience they are trying to reel in while TV and newspaper end up spending more money for a smaller amount of people. These ads can be beneficial for only larger firm rather than firms with not a lot of awareness. If a firm is not well known, and people haven’t heard of the firm than it’s not worth it. It is desirable because it allows advertisers to determine user preference and purchasing habits. These ads are more useful to the consumers. The targeting of advertising can lead to higher profits.…

Without a doubt the United States was brutal during their 14 years in the Vietnam War. There were times when our soldiers were commanded to shoot Vietnam civilians. Our second source tells us that they killed mostly women and children. Perhaps there were times when American soldiers could not tell a Viet Cong sniper apart from a civilian, but either way, there were around 5,000 civilians killed by the United States. There are a lot of veterans who have served in American wars who suffer from PTSD after they get home from battle. Post-traumatic stress disorder could be brought on by high intensity while a soldier is in battle, seeing a fellow soldier die, shooting enemies, and it is evident that shooting civilians can cause it as well. Veterans can get aggressive if their settings at home give them a flashback of a bad memory of war. A lot of soldiers such as veteran Bob Kerrey regret killing civilians and they have had to live with it for the past forty years. There are questions to whether or not the Americans are war criminals for killing these Vietnam civilians.…

“I’m just going to Google it” is one of the most common phrases heard throughout high school and college campuses of today as a response to several unknown questions. Google is one of the most popular search engines of the Internet that is often referred to as the “Best Friend” of those who constantly rely on it for guidance. Since the emergence of the Internet, there has been a huge debate over whether or not Google and the Internet as a whole is hindering the human thought process. Nicholas Carr is one author that believes although Google may be our “Best Friend”, it is not necessarily good for the way that we are beginning to think. Carr outlines his argument on this subject in the article “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” and is challenged by a counter-argument by another author, Trent Batson.…
