Lindos Case Study
Introduction One of the most famous historical places in the world , and specifically in Greece , is a small village called Lindos. A village, located on the island of Rhodes, which does not exceed the number of 2000 permanent residents. This particular destination is of great interest to tourists seeking to visit it and this is due to its history from the ancient years. According to Cohen , he categorized tourist into four sections : 1) organized mass tourist 2) individual mass tourist 3) the explorer and 4) the drifter. Starting with the organized mass tourist , this type of tourist is least adventurous , before traveling, has already arranged a package about what to visit, for example, museums , historical places etc. They have also previously arranged specific stops during their journey. All of this under the direction of a guided organizer who is responsible for making decisions about what they are going to do. They also prefer to spend their time in their comfortable "environmental bubble" during their tour. Typically this category varies from older people or better to families so they do not have to look for details of the place they visit and take advantage of the special guide organizers. Continuing with the second type called individual mass tourist , their travel is not organized entirely by the others, the tourist takes little controll about what he wants to do , what he prefers to see what attracts him but he does not get his hands on the control of the trip. It has common elements with the previous type but all the major arrangements are decided again through travel agencies. The third type , according to Cohen , is the explorer. More analytically , the explorer , regulates his travel alone, prefers to go to places that are not common places, looking for a comfortable hotel and simple transportation. He also retains some of his basic routines and lifestyle. He tries to socialize by talking to the locals of the area and tries to put hiself to engage with their language so , in general , he dares to go out of his environmental bubble.
