Lindbergh Child Kidnapping Research Paper
Only about half the children kidnapped ever return home (National). The night of March 1, 1932, Charles Lindbergh and Anne Lindbergh experienced a night like they never imagined. Sadly for the Lindbergh family, they lost their child forever. Various events happened in the kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby with many results leading to America attempting to find the kidnapper (History.com). The twenty month old Lindbergh baby boy was kidnapped from his nursery at around 9:00 p.m. The nurse was the first to detect the missing baby, and she immediately notified the parents. A ransom note demanding $50,000 to get the child back was found in the nursery window sill. The nursery was searched for evidence, but all that was found were muddy footprints and a partially broken ladder. The evidence found was all examined, the ladder was found to be extremely well made, the maker was great with wood. On May 23, the FBI told banks to be on the look out for ransom money. The money was paid all in gold certificates. Many rewards were offered for anyone who had an information. President Franklin Roosevelt then came out saying that the return to the Treasury of all gold certificates were of valuable aid to this case. Then copies of ransom bills were made with serial numbers on them and handed to employees of many stores. Since, rewards were offered this caused many frauds to say they knew the kidnapper. May 2, 1933 most of the certificates were found. The certificates all had the same name and address on them “J.J Faulkner, 537 W. 149th St.”, but that man was never found. In September 1934, all the gold certificates were found, and each certificate was placed on map in order to find who might have the money. This was going to help them extremely, but it is not what actually found the kidnapper
