Imagine being in the kitchen and cooking a special dish with one of your family members. Being with your friends and family while making food can be a special moment that you won't forget, and after you taste it it'll make you want to chef it up again! Cooking and food are important in people's lives because they are memorable traditions when a special event is to occur, or just whenever a meal is needed to be made. Food is significant in people's lives because it represents character, personality, and love. Food and cooking are common themes in the book Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel. In the book, food and cooking are essential in the De La Garza family. There are various recipes that have been passed down from generations, and require certain ingredients that make the dish taste spectacular. Cooking falls into to the main character Tita, who is an amazing young chef, and plays her role in the book perfectly. Her flawless cooking leads to many unforgettable moments in the De La Garza family. One example of Titas amazing cooking is when Gertrudis tries her quail in rose petal sauce. Once Gertrudis tastes this elegant dish, it serves to her as an aphrodisiac for her, arousing her as an untamable sexual desire. “On her the food seemed to act as an aphrodisiac; she began to feel an intense heat pulsing through her limbs”(Esquivel 51). …show more content…
Since I was six years old, I have always helped my mom out in cooking. I loved to assist her in making dinner, desserts, as well as food for parties. I think cooking is great because it's enjoyable and once you taste your final results, it's satisfying to know you did a great job in preparation. I think that in the De La Garza family cooking and food is imperative because they feel that love and passion comes from the food that they serve every day.
