Fade IN:

(1) EXT. ARCADIA NATIONAL PARK – DAY

An older jeep type vehicle is driving on the winding road across the mountain ridges. We follow from a distance while the credits display in the lower left. The trees are lush and there is a summer breeze.

(2) EXT. GAS STATION – LATE IN THE DAY

The jeep arrives at the gas station, and 20 year old Mike steps out. He stops, adjust his hat and heads into the store.

(3) INT. GAS STATION

As he enters the doors a bell rings. He looks around and wonders over to the cashier.

MIKE
I'm looking for Dale?

Dale
Your talking to him. You must be Mike, your Dad told me a lot about you.

Mike
Yeah. Its all lies
(Smiles)

DALE
(Laughs) Joker like your Dad I see. So what all did he tell you about this job.

Mike
Gas Station Attendant for the Night Shift.

DALE
He didn't tell you did he? Recently there have campers going missing. It seems someone or something has been kidnapping them. The police haven't been able to find anything. Johnny's the only one who ever escaped claimed it was some evil creature, but he's gone insane after what happened. They say this creature roams the woods every night looking for his next victim, and you'll be right here in the center of it.

Mike looks a little freaked out, wide eyed staring at Dale.

DALE
I'm just messing with you son, their ain't no evil creatures out there.

Mike
I see you've got jokes too

Dale
What can I say I like to keep the mood light. Now in all seriousness. There are a few things you need to know. This Road you got here (Points to Map) on spans over 60 miles through the national park. Across those 60 miles there is only one Gas Station and that's us smack dab in the middle. That's why we are open 24/7 so people don't run out of gas and get stuck. Now you heard about that big casino they are building in Pine Hill?

Mike
Yeah its going to

Me and Johnny have been hiding from the police for a couple of days now. I'm sure Darry, Soda, and the rest of the gang are worried sick about us. I haven't gotten much sleep since we went into hiding, I am betting Johnny hasn't either because it is hard to get good sleep while your laying on the cold floor of an abandoned church and when you are thinking about everything that went on with our lives the past couple days. Earlier today Johnny went to the store to get some food and supplies with the $50 dollars Dally gave us to live off of while we are hiding. Besides getting food, Johnny got me a copy of Gone With The Wind because he knew I love that book so much and he wanted me to read it to him. He also got some cards…

All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr is a novel about the impact war has on innocent people's lives. The struggles of people with disabilities in a time where people weren’t very kind to each other was mentioned often in the story. Doerr writes often about people who coped with and tried to cure blindness through curses, roadblocks, treasure hunts and terrible allies. It seemed that the search for answers and finding hope was the main theme of the story. But it was very sad and dark often, it was depressing in some parts.…

The most prominent theme of the novel highlights war. Doerr’s work of fiction uses physical symbols to showcase the effects of war on people, of resistance to oppression, and the effort of citizens trying to maintain normality, creating a whole better understanding for readers about the outcomes of war. Historians, philosophers, and writers alike can attest to the human struggle to follow a certain moral code; history shows a constant rift between what humans claim they should do and what they actually do. If this rift did not exist, many a crisis and war could be averted, but humanity would not be its beautifully flawed self. In the novel All the Light We Cannot See, Doerr is raved over for “masterfully and knowledgeably recreating the deprived civilian conditions of war-torn France and the strictly controlled lives of the military occupiers” (Hooper 23). However, the use of literary devices in the novel reflects a message deeper than that of just another war-time story. Doerr utilizes the war setting as a means of further exploring the nature of humanity in a distinct context. He does not define the characters by war; he defines the characters and gives them a war to respond…

Shouldn't they find a new color?” Mike asked, wanting to laugh instead he went to the family room to watch TV. At once a news bulletin interrupted the program and got his attention. The reporter said. “Two local teenage boys are missing tonight. The police are asking for the public’s help to find them. If anyone has seen these boys, please contact the police at once. The teenagers, Mark Russell, and Chuck Wilson failed to arrive at school this morning. Mr. Colbert on Elm Street said he was working in the garden around 8:00 when the boys rode by on their bikes. When Mark didn’t come home, around 5:30, Mrs. Russell called the other boy’s parents. The police have learned that neither boy attended class today. Family and friends searched the area and found their bikes, but no trace of the boys. The family reported them missing around 6:30. We have current photos and if anyone sees these teens, please call the police,” he said as they flashed the photos across the…
