Life Without Internet
What Would Life be Like Without the Internet?
An interesting question in an age where the Internet plays an integral part of everyday life, business and society! So what are the implications of a life without the internet?
Well firstly we should ask the question in a more specific circumstance.
What would life be like with no Internet if the ‘plug’ was pulled today?
We’ll be looking at this topic from this angle, rather than trying to imagine the world without the Internet had it never been invented.
Life without Internet – Pulling the Plug on the Internet.
How exactly the Internet Plug could ever get pulled is a complicated question, due to the expansive infrastructure that makes up the Internet. It would probably require the shutting down of every server and local DNS around the world.
Some people have spoken about a major virus infection spreading through all servers and computers, rendering them / the Internet in a paralyzed state.
There is also another wild theory where by the wind generated by huge solar flares will disrupt anything that carries current, from telegraph wires, anything metal, computers, servers etc.
You can read about this theory if you Google “Carrington Event of 1959” This theory is said to be predicted by Nasa.
Life with no Internet – Personal Users
How would having no Internet affect the general personal user? Well apart from every teenager screaming because they can’t log on to Facebook, it all comes down to how much we personally use the Internet and what for.
Some of us hardly use the Internet, where others pretty much live their life around it! Equally some actually live a completely New Life within the Internet like those who useSecond Life.
I asked a few people their initial feelings towards loosing the Internet, here’s what they said;
“So many people use the Internet that if whoever banned it from the world everyone would complain that much and so many people would sue them that they would be forced to put it back on

Growing up in my generation has always had me wondering how different our lives would be if we had no internet. We rely on our cellphones and computers so much, are we really living? If we aren’t living, where does our happiness come in play? Melvin Kranzberg quotes: “Technology is neither good nor evil. The most we can say about it is this: It has come” (Kranzberg). Kranzberg is saying that there are advantages and disadvantages to having access to technology. We have the flexibility to learn anything, anywhere we can reach a computer or device. Sadly, with social media becoming a huge hype, we are diminishing face-to-face communication. Is technology preventing humans from really living while impacting a person's level of happiness?…

Going off the electronic grid would mean many different things to different people; we lead a fast paced life. With tablets, smartphones and computers, we can use the Internet to keep in touch with everyone, everywhere and every second of everyday. Using Twitter, LinkedIn, MySpace, Facebook and many other social networks, a person can take a picture and, within seconds, it can be on the Internet for the whole world to see. The Internet seduces us into a world of information that separates us from human contact by alienating us from physical activities and human contact.…

In the essay “The Net Is a Waste of Time” by William Gibson, he talks about how he is an “avid browser of the World Wide Web.” While people find this to be odd and his wife finds it positively perverse, Gibson thinks differently saying “I, however, scent big changes afoot, possibilities that were never quite as manifest in earlier incarnations of the Net” (Gibson 691). While some people think he is wasting his time with the web, he believes it will be the tool of the future. Even though the internet has greatly changed since Gibson wrote this essay, I believe that the internet will continue to grow, and will become a bigger part of our everyday lives.…

Our world today is characterized by efficiency from minor things to making coffee in the morning to determining the most effective and aerodynamic structure for a common day fuselage. Now imagine our world, one that strives for efficiency, without Internet. I wouldn't guarantee that efficiency would overcome simplicity in a world where communication is scarce and a source of information is uncommon. The dilemma at our hand is that people do not acknowledge the fact that even though the Internet might help with our coffee in the morning to flying across the Atlantic, the Internet is also the main contributor to social and personal chaos and society's demise.…

As with any new technology, everyone is always talking about the negative side effects of the internet and saying how it ruins real face to face relationship, fills our minds with filth and damages our eyes and melts our brains. As usual it’s the panic mongers whose voices are most heard in the media and it’s gotten to such a point that people begin to feel guilty when they boot up their computer. The same things were said about rock music when records were at their most popular, and about televisions when they were first invented. The fact of the matter remains however that we still use both music players and televisions and that the internet isn’t going anywhere either. The reason for this is that although all these things do have a few downsides (like anything), they also have a plethora of upsides. The positive effects of internet use far outweigh the negatives, whether you’re a child, a pensioner or a business man and to say otherwise is not only small minded but destructive.…
