Lewinsky Scandal
Lewinsky scandal

* The Lewinsky scandal was a political sex scandal emerging in 1998, from a sexual relationship between United States President Bill Clinton and a 22-year-old White House intern, Monica Lewinsky. The news of this extra-marital affair and the resulting investigation eventually led to the impeachment of President Clinton in 1998 by the U.S. House of Representatives and his subsequent acquittal on all impeachment charges of perjury and obstruction of justice in a 21-day Senate trial * In 1995, Monica Lewinsky, a graduate of Lewis & Clark College, was hired to work as an intern at the White House during Clinton 's first term and began a personal relationship with him, the details of which she later confided to her friend and Defense department co-worker Linda Tripp, who secretly recorded their telephone conversations. When Tripp discovered in January 1998 that Lewinsky had signed an affidavit in the Paula Jones case denying a relationship with Clinton, she delivered the tapes to Kenneth Starr, the Independent Counsel who was investigating Clinton on other matters, including the Whitewater scandal, the White House FBI files controversy, and the White House travel office controversy. During the grand jury testimony Clinton 's responses were carefully worded, and he argued, "It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is ' is", in regards to the truthfulness of his statement that "there is not a sexual relationship, an improper sexual relationship or any other kind of improper relationship." * The wide reporting of the scandal led to criticism of the press for over-coverage. The scandal is sometimes referred to as "Monicagate", "Lewinskygate", "Tailgate", "Sexgate" and "Zippergate", following the "-gate" nickname construction that has been popular since the Watergate scandal. * Lewinsky claimed to have had sexual encounters with Bill Clinton on nine occasions from November 1995 to March 1997. According to her published schedule,

Watergate was a tragic event that became a downfall for many people in the White House, and it cost a lot of careers too. One afternoon burglars broke in the Democratic Headquarters at the Watergate complex, but in fact, it was a former CIA agent named James McCord. He was also an advocate for the re-election of President Nixon which brings many questions to mind. The committee tried to spy on the democratic headquarters by placing listening devices in the offices to gain an insight to their re-election campaigns. Hopefully, the Republicans would get a heads start on planning the soon to come re-elections for President Nixon. What action exposed the scandal to our nation? Who accused the one who was responsible…

“ 1988, I lost my reputation and my dignity. I lost almost everything, and I almost lost my life.” Monica Lewinsky is a woman that was affected by public shaming. Public Shaming is a consequence that is served when a human makes a mistake. Often it is a crime that is legal and people still get persecuted. The three sources that support my claim is the scarlet letter, Monica Lewinsky, and Justine Sacco’s issue. These sources display negative effects of public shaming towards the people is unjust. Public shaming causes cruel punishments, depression and it should be left in the past.…

The impeachment of President Clinton is something that will be remembered forever. Along with the fact that a presidential impeachment has only happened one other time since the Civil War, the publicity that came with the Clinton trial was extensive (Miller 2004). While the Republican and Democratic members of the House of Representatives had vastly different views on impeaching President Clinton, the fact that only five Democratic Representatives voted to impeach him truly shows how wide that gap was between the two parties. Clinton was impeached on the grounds of perjury to a grand jury and obstruction of justice, with the vote on both articles extremely close, a 228-206 vote on perjury to a grand jury and a 221-212 vote on obstruction of justice (Rozell and Wilcox 1999).…

Affairs among members of the large corporate structures are not uncommon and can be found documented in many different venues. When a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) chooses to have an affair with an employee on his staff, many questions can be raised. Is it a question of whether the affair was wrong, or whether the conduct reflects poorly on not only the person’s involved, but the company that was involved? Perhaps it just came down to Mr. Stonecipher not practicing what he preached. From an ethical standpoint, Mr. Stonecipher was clearly in the wrong. As a CEO or a leader for that matter, you must lead by example and his example was poor at best. You cannot enforce standards in the workplace if you are skirting those standards yourself.…
