Let America Be America Again, By Langston Hughes
Whitman wrote, “I hear America singing.’’ The purpose of the poem was to tell the reader how the American dream was going when Whitman wrote this poem. Langston Hughes wrote,” Let America be America again.’’ The purpose of this poem was to tell the reader that not everyone could have lived the american dream. What i have gathered they can both agree on that they want america to get better. Since, “ I hear america singing,”and “Let America be America again” are similar and different. I can compare and contrast. “ I hear America Singing” and “Let America be America again are similar because, they are both poems about the american dream. Both poems seem to say the immigrants didn't move here the money, but for the opportunities they are given. They have lists in their poems,they are the individuals who represent america because they are the ones who made it possible today to do anything.

If you could sing while you worked, that meant that you are satisfied with your days work and had pride in being a part of America's success. Langston Hughes wrote, “ Let America be America again,” he may may have thought that most people are living in poverty and trying there best to get out but they were getting all the hard work and little pay. They are both are different in style because, Whitman's poem is a free verse, but Hughes is a standard rhyme poem. “I hear America singing” is praising individuals and liberties that make America great. “ Let America be America Again” is frustrated over individuals who feel excluded, because they can't get the same opportunities. the tone of Whitman is patriotic, because they were happy the be America's success.
