SOURCE OF AGE DIFFERENCES

There are three proposal focuces in Source of Age Differences:

1. Biological Factors

2. Cognitive Factors

3. Affective Factors

4. Differences in The Language Environment

• BIOLOGICAL FACTORS

It tells about development of Cerebral Dominance.

There are 3 specialization of function in the right and left sides of the brains;

a. Lateralization begins in childhood and is completed at puberty. It means that the child begins produce their firts language with their brain not only the right brain but also the left brain. Then if the child become puberty, they can chose to use the left brain or the right brain.

b. Lateralization by five tells that the left brain more dominan than the right brain in the five age.

c. Lateralization of zero tells that both of them is used not only the left but also the right brain.

• COGNITIVE FACTORS

It tells about how far someone know about language that they learn.

e.g. a child don’t know about what the apple is before. Her/his mother tells about what it is and the child needs some media like picture or video that help her/him to know it. But if this case happen on an adult, mother can tell what it is and she/he know it without use any medias at all. “It is influenced by their experience.”

• AFFECTIVE FACTORS

• DIFFERENCES IN LANGUAGE ENVIRONMENT(LE)

It tells about he differences of children and adults hear.

    The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the correlational method as a means for examining the relationship between functions of the left and right hemispheres. I will compare the performance of people with intact brains with the performance of so-called split-brain patients. In many ways, the brains of these two groups are very similar. 1A. The brainstem of a normal brain is located in lower back of the brain which connects the cerebellum with the spinal cord. There is no difference between normal brainstem and a split –brain brainstem. Reason is because there is not physical cut done on the brainstem. 1B. The hippocampus is located in the limbic system structure. It is involved making, organizing and storing memories. There is no difference between a split-brain hippocampus and a normal brain hippocampus. The cut done on the corpus callosum will not affect the hippocampus because the cut would not be deep enough. 1C.     There are several methods for studying cerebral lateralization; four methods in the forefront are the study of unilateral lesions, sodium amytal, dichotic listening, and functional brain imaging. The traditional method for studying cerebral lateralization is unilateral lesions study, which is the study of the location and effect lesions have on the brain and body functionality. In past, this was primarily done after the subject was deceased or through highly invasive surgery. The sodium amytal test uses an injection of sodium amytal into a carotid artery on the side of the neck that will put the same side hemisphere to sleep for a few minutes allowing doctors to test the other hemisphere for primary language center. The process is then repeated for the opposite side of the hemisphere. This method is invasive, but provides a fairly accurate method to identify the hemisphere that is the primary language center. The dichotic listening test uses earphones to speak a different sequence, such as numbers, in each ear; the sequence with the most digits reported indicates the dominant language hemisphere. For most people, the left hemisphere is the dominant one, meaning the subject would have repeated more sequences heard in the right ear. The dichotic listening test is non-invasive, and it is just as accurate an indicator of primary language center hemisphere as the sodium amytal test method. Functional brain imaging uses positron emission tomography (PET) or functional MRI to measure brain activity while the subject is performing an activity such as reading; typically, functional brain imaging used on language tests reveals more activity in the left hemisphere. Functional brain imaging is the method that shows more detail in brain activity.…
