Observation of an Experienced Teacher
An Evaluation
Introduction
My first observation was at a4e, which is where I volunteer for 5 hours per week. These hours count towards my teaching hours as part of my PGCE. The teacher delivering the session was Charlotte Faichney who is the Skills for Life specialist. She delivers the Numeracy and Literacy modules at the a4e Wrexham office.
The students’s ages ranged from 16 to 18 and were at Entry Level 2 and 3. The session was held in Basic Skills Classroom, which is well equipped, well lit and well maintained. This showed an understanding about ways to maintain a learning environment in which learners feel safe and supported (BK 1.1)
This was my first observation and would count towards the PTLLS module of my PGCE. The session ran for 95 minutes.

Planning
The aim of the lesson was to introduce the learners to different aspects of handling data through the use of circus skills. The learner’s objectives were to record numerical data, extract and interpret that data and to make comparisons with the use of bar charts. They would have to find the average and the range for a set of data.
The lesson plan showed a logical flow from introduction of the session, to the practical exercises, collecting and interpreting the data and the final Q & A session that evaluated the success of planned learning activities (DP 3.1). These Q & A sections were relevant and acted as a natural stepping stone to progress the lesson. The first Q & A established prior knowledge, while the second assessed the newly acquired knowledge before starting the main activity. The next session re-capped the activity and gave the learners the opportunity to analyse their results. The fourth session enable students the knowledge to calculate arithmetic averages for their sets of data and the last session was a summative assessment of the whole session.
This detailed plan really showed how to

It is important to provide a safe and supportive learning environment so that all learners feel comfortable, relaxed and able to explore learning regardless of their previous experiences. I had the opportunity to observe a 10th grade English “inclusion” class at the Greater Lowell Technical High School. I am performing my practicum experience at Greater Lowell Tech (GLT), and was astonished to learn that special education accounts for almost 25% of the student population! I honestly had little knowledge of inclusion classrooms, and any information I had obtained was through literature or discussion with fellow classmates. There were no such things as inclusion classrooms when I was in high school, and special education was not nearly as prevalent. I chose an inclusion classroom to do my observation out of sheer curiosity and thought it would be an interesting experience. I knew a direct observation for this assignment would definitely give me insight into what techniques are used with the special education students, and allow me to see how they interact and work with regular students. This class was 90 minutes long, and co-taught by Mr. John Gibson (SPED), and Mrs. Jenny Flood (9th and 10th grade English teacher).…

I did my observation at Horace Mann Elementary school 3nd grade classroom. When I entered the classroom, I felt very welcomed, Mrs.burns had all the students welcome me. It was a very colorful classroom covered with the children’s art work. The children seemed to feel very comfortable around each other; they all appeared to be communicating well. The goals of the children in the class room are to actively participate and understand the information taught. As I observed part of her math class, they were learning money. She gave them a worksheet to work on after she taught the lesson. As they were completing the worksheet she walked around to answer any questions and to make sure they were on task. Ten minutes later, children need to take a break on the underground,so Mrs.burns asked them to keep quiet and stand a line leave the classroom,in order to let them keep quiet, she got a idea, she took a rose and give it to who are being quiet ,then she asked that person pass this rose to another person which u think being quite, but at this time I found an interesting thing.A girl ,she didn’t pass the rose to a quiet person, she just passed it to her best friend,at first I didn’t know it ,but then there are some students began to complain about that,so I know she didn’t do it as teacher said, actually it correspond this age’s behaver, they are care more about friendship , the children are starting to not be as bossy and domineering. They do not like critism, and wishes to please others. They are sensitive about others feelings. However, they may be critical of themselves and become more of a perfectionist. The children are more cautious and withdrawn during this age.…
