Legalizing Marijuana Case Study
(1) In your opinion, should the U.S. Congress be able to criminalize the production and use of marijuana for medical purposes when a state (i.e., California, etc.) has approved such use? Please explain. In, my opinion the U.S congress shouldn’t be able to criminalize the production and use of marijuana for medical purposes. I feel that with congress trying to criminalize it is taken away from the state’s power. When a state approves the usage of marijuana for medical reasoning, those who truly need shouldn’t be penalized for it.
(2) What are some arguments in support of legalizing marijuana for medical purposes? Please explain. Marijuana is produced from a natural earthy grown plant. This medication consists of dries leaves that work as a pain reliever that’s generated by the tetrahydrocannabinol, “THC” sending that person on positive, pain free high. One can argue that this substance doesn’t have a negative impact to society. Marijuana can help treat or easy pain for several of illnesses. Cannabis …show more content…
Please explain. Most people who don’t support this movement argue that legalizing marijuana will lead to more drug crimes. Individuals make the assumption that marijuana is addictive drug that lead to the embracing of other narcotics. Another argument made is drug dealer/ or merchants could possibly sale to minors. The fear of sending a message to youth that drugs are acceptable typically directs people away from legalizing marijuana for medical purposes. Other will argue it’s the government duty to look out for the general welfare of the public; so because medical marijuana doesn’t affect those taken the drug it can have a negative impact to others. Lastly people view legalizing it would take power way from the government. Marijuana is considered “Schedule 1 drug under the Controlled Substances Act” which is viewed as completely against the law under federal
