Legalization of Marijuana Have you ever wondered why marijuana was illegal? Keeping marijuana illegal costs tax payers a bunch of money, and is not even an effective way to solve the problem of marijuana use. People have the right to choose for themselves if they want to use marijuana or not. The use of marijuana does not affect anyone but the person using it, so why not let them use marijuana if they choose to. According to the Marijuana Legalization Organization, the criminalization of marijuana does not keep young kids from using it and it also does not stop the abuse of marijuana, if anything it makes it worse. If the government would legalize marijuana and let those of a reasonable age decide whether or not to use it, then they could create safe place to buy marijuana where kids couldn’t get to it. The regulation of where marijuana is bought, who is able to buy and use it would make marijuana sufficiently healthier. Marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug according to the MLO, and it has been abused for many years. The main reason that marijuana is used abusively is because it has been under prohibition for many years. Marijuana has many other names but three of the commonly known names are cannabis, reefer and weed. Marijuana derives from the hemp plant Cannabis Sativa. For over two-thousand years marijuana has been cultivated all over the world, and may contain up to four hundred chemicals. One of the main chemicals in marijuana is THC (Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannainol) (Marijuana). “Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol is the primary psychoactive ingredient in marijuana” (Medical Marijuana). The fact that marijuana contains THC is why marijuana is illegal (MLO). The amount of THC within a certain strain of marijuana determines the potency, or how strong it will be. Sometimes it isn’t strong at all when other times, it can be extremely strong. It all depends on how the marijuana is grown. With cultivation
