Introduction
I am going to do a balanced argument that cannabis should be legalised or not using research and graphs.
Cannabis is a class B drug, from 1938-2001 cannabis was a class B drug and it got declassified to a class C in 2001 but in 2008 the classification rose. Cannabis is the most commonly used drug in Britain. (Source 2)
Cannabis is a natural occurring drug coming from the cannabis plant. The main chemical in cannabis is called tetrahydrocannabinol (THC.) Cannabis has a few side effects like paranoia and can alter your senses however cannabis can help people with Multiple Sclerosis.(Source 1) Cannabis is sold and used in a variety of ways and different types some of them are: Hash, a weaker substance; grass or weed, the most common type of cannabis; skunk, a very strong substance 2-4 times stronger than weed and cannabis oil, a thick honey like substance. Cannabis can used in bongs, spliffs, and put into brownies or tea. A spliff is cannabis rolled into a rizla with tobacco. A bong is a pipe with a hole to suck out the fumes from burnt cannabis. The price of cannabis per ounce varies from £104-£200 hash being the cheapest and skunk the most expensive. (Source 2)

    On January 2nd 2014, the Help End Marijuana Prohibition (HEMP) party’s president Michael Bladerstone called for a referendum on whether Australia should legalise the sale and consumption of marijuana, also known as cannabis. The HEMP party is pushing for the legalisation of marijuana for personal and medical use. I believe that marijuana should be made legal to the Australian public due to its extensive medical benefits, the fact that it is a lot safer than alcohol and for the economic benefits that it would bring to our Government.Marijuana has been used as a medicine for thousands of years in countries all over the world. Medical cannabis is used to increase the appetite in patients with HIV, AIDS and cancer, to reduce nausea and vomiting induced by chemotherapy, to reduce the symptoms of chronic pain, to help relieve spasticity in Multiple Sclerosis and Tourette’s and to stop seizures caused by Epilepsy.The Herald Sun undertook and investigation that found that up to 10 Victorian children, some as young as three, are taking daily doses of medical cannabis and in some cases it is being administered by teachers as desperate parents turn their backs on ineffective pharmaceutical drugs.On the 12th of January the Herald Sun also published an article about an eight year old girl called Tara O’Connell who suffered from Epilepsy and was having up to 60 seizures a day. This little girl could no longer walk or talk and was given only months to live. That was until her mother Cheri started giving her doses of liquid cannabis. One year on, she is now a bubbly eight-year old who no longer needs a wheelchair to get around. The only side effects that she experienced were an increase in appetite and fatigue.     Marijuana is one of the most commonly used drugs in the world. Though illegal in most states, several states have passed laws allowing the use of marijuana for medical purposes. As of 2013 there are 18 states and DC, who have legalized marijuana for medical use while 10 more states are pending the bill to be passed. Marijuana remains illegal throughout the United States and has not been approved by the FDA for prescription for medicine. In fact, “The FDA and comparable authorities have not approved smoked cannabis for any condition or disease” (Medical). Wherever the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes is allowed, doctors recommend it to treat chronic diseases and conditions such as Crohn’s disease, AIDS, cancer, nausea resulting from chemotherapy, and even ADHD. Doctors have even recommended it for critically ill patients, as a way to relieve some of their pain and improve their overall quality of life. Although the substance can potentially aid in the pain of an ill patient, marijuana remains a controlled substance, making possession and distribution illegal.
