Legal and Ethical Framework
A Comprehensive Safety Policy for Workers In A Government Primary School
BACKGROUND OF THE SCHOOL
The Public Primary School was established on January 25th 1956. It was constructed by Trinidad Leaseholds Limited (the precursor company to TEXACO, TRINTOC and PETROTRIN) on lands owned by the named companies and donated to the Gasparillo community. This institution was established to facilitate chronic overcrowding at Gasparillo Government Primary School.
In its fifty–six (56) year history, the institution has been recognized as one of the premiere primary schools within the Victoria Educational District having had numerous successes at all levels of student development namely academic, athletics, sports and other co-curricular activities. The Management team is led by a recently appointed Principal, an acting Vice Principal (who is also the H.O.D. of the Infant Department) and one (1) Head of Department (H.O.D.). There are only five (5) males and thirty- one (31) females on staff, while the age of the staff ranges from twenty (20) to fifty-nine (59) years.
The Public Primary School’s vision statement is:
“Public Primary School is committed to the growth and development of its clients to their fullest potential academically, morally, spiritually and socially in an environment that is safe and nurturing.”

The school has the following mission statement:
“At Public Primary School, we are dedicated to learning and to the continuous development of our clients. Together with our stakeholders, we will instil in our clients those values that are enshrined in our national watchwords, Discipline, Production and Tolerance. We will develop and implement programmes which will ensure that every child is well prepared and capable of managing in a technologically advancing global community, as well as demonstrating behaviours and values that would make them good, productive citizens.”

Regulations, moral values along with business ethics, form the basis of governance in the corporate world. Ethical standards should decide situations that are not expressly governed by regulation or law. Ethics is defined as standards used by companies to conduct their business operations. Standards are what define a company (Corey et al, 2011). Ethics should not be used as a sale item to the highest bidder. It would be easy for a company to ignore ethics in a bid to increase its sales and profits. It will only take such a company to deviate from its standards and tarnish its name. It is vital for a company, therefore, to adhere to standards. Standards should be the drive of any business decision. If customers realize, that a company is unable to make right decisions, the impression the company leaves to the customers may be unfavorable and changing this image may be an overwhelming task. To alleviate the burden of establishing and maintaining standards in corporations, different techniques have been set up to measure the structural and behavioral organizational ethics. Six Sigma and Balanced Scorecard are some of the models used by companies to enhance business performance and ethics.…

standards and school readiness. Being committed to educating every child is an important strategy in the effort to increase a child’s development and learning standards. School readiness matters. According to Gramling, it is clear that child development is very profitable to a child’s learning environment. It’s also clear that in order to build a greater education system we must have a much higher quality early childhood program. I believe it begins with the children. Since children begin learning even before they enter school, it is important that the core of social and economic education be laid early in their…

Schools might demonstrate their aims by providing the basis for the delivery of the best curriculum, and commitment to enabling all of their children to succeed and be supported to achieve their best through a range of exciting learning opportunities. They would uphold the aims by ensuring the rules are followed, teaching the children valuable skills to use in school as well as in their home life, it would also keep order in the running of the school. It is the schools role to ensure that their children are well prepared for the opportunities and challenges of life. Parents are involved in encouraging their participation in the education of their children, and by offering a supportive framework where they work with school. Examples could be extra help with reading, classroom assistance, homework, fun ways of learning for example St David's and Ysgol Panteg use fun computer programmes to teach the children. Children are also always encouraged to take pride in themselves, their appearance and their work, with high standards being required at all times…
