ABSTRACT
Time and again farmers, plant growers, and backyard owners of vegetable garden have been complaining of rising cost of inorganic fertilizers such as complete and Urea. The result is that they disregard the use of these fertilizers and left their plants without it. In the end, the result is low produce and their plants are malnourished and worst less fruit. This Science Investigatory Project (SIP) entitled “Left-Over Rice: A Cheap and Practical Compost Enhancer for 28-32 days” was conducted in order to answer the problems of the farmers and plant growers. With this project, we used left-over rice from the canteens and from our households. Other materials were vegetable trimmings, fruit peelings like banana in which we got from wet markets. This Project is very useful to the community in general because they can make use of their biodegradable waste into productive use such as compost. On the other hand, compost are cheap and environment friendly organic fertilizers which can make the plants grow healthy as well as the soil fertile. The biodegradable waste such as rice instead of throwing them away can be made useful. In the end, this project will be a solution to the problem on poverty and hunger. The increase in farm output will effect additional income to the farmers. The abundant farm output can solve the problem in hunger. The community as well, can sell this compost, thereby augmenting also their household income.

India is the top country for malnourishment, at an appalling 214 million malnourished people. Although acute action is needed to act fast and provide relief efforts to the people of India, there is more so a chronic relief effort that needs to be implemented to provide a developmental program that creates sustainability within the country. These people need our support and education in order to help begin the process. They have pleaded for our help in the beginning steps of creating a community garden. This garden can provide nourishment to the people of this country as we implement many of them in different villages. They do not have the technology of tools or the different types of seeds that can provide fruits and vegetables. By helping them start the gardens, this can then provide the resources needed for future seasons in crop rotations.…

Food scarcity is a serious problem the world is facing right now. In the past decades they have been avoiding this issue, but now it may be the reason for the downfall of the human race. As a civilization we have failed to deal with all these environmental issues for example eroding soils, water tables, rising temperatures, etc. These issues lead to food production problems. Costs of food keep rising at the same time death rates rise. Everyday there are more and more low-income countries are affected by the rising food costs because of trade and grain prices. The prices of food keep increasing because of different problems in the manufacturing of the food. Together, we must try to help scientist come up with solutions to save our only planet, before it’s too late.…

One of the prevailing and in fact worsening problem deals with Africa’s good sources and agriculture which ultimately affect Africa’s people with hunger, malnutrition and starvation. It is not that Africa lacks any food sources but that it does lack a variety of nutrients and minerals. If the incorporation of communication of the new and innovative agricultural techniques, African farmers will be able to learn with the development in this major area and perhaps seek success and conquer their countries hunger. However, due to their lack of involvement they are unable to learn how to be adaptive to their own fertile lands and cannot expand their variety of food. If we can first cross the barrier of communicating these new farming techniques then there is a chance to help innovate Africa’s…

With the rapid growth of our global population pouring into the next millennium, we will witness an ever-growing hunger rate around the world. That is unless we call for a revolution on the global scale. The Green Revolution which already sprouted in the early part of the century only need to add a bit more momentum and we will see a bright future for the human race, a future without hunger and starvation ¡V hopefully.

It is becoming increasingly difficult for the planet to support its overwhelming population. And since the amount of arable land available is becoming scarce, we must seek ways to dramatically improve crop yields of existing cropland. By implementing new farming techniques provided with the new technological advances in machines we can see abundant harvest in even the poorest third world countries. For example, the Green Revolution has already showed admirable progress in the northern part of India ever since it took start in 1950. By 1997, northern India increased its grain production by 37 percent. This has proven that traditional farming methods are being rendered obsolete. And because by the year 2000, there will be half the land per person in developing countries as there was in 1970, we need to apply ultra-efficient methods to sustain the growing need.

Not only does the Green Revolution enhances food output, it also preserves the environment. Traditional agriculture requires massive forest and grassland removal to obtain land necessary to farm on. Deforestation and overgrazing has caused erosion flooding, and enabled the expansion of deserts. But with drainage systems, leveling, and irrigation provided by the Green Rev, all this terra deforming will unlikely happen again. We can retain clean air and lessen the global warming effect caused by deforestation.

Many people argue that a revamp in agriculture will be way too expensive and unrealistic especially for those poor farmers in third world countries. However many times,…

The food process was directly affected by the rise in oil prices. As oil prices increased, fertilizer, food transpiration and industrial agricultural prices rose as well. Rice prices were up 217%, wheat 136%, corn 125% , soybeans 107%, and the prices of meat and dairy more than doubled. Discussion after the food crisis focused on quick fixes of contributing factors—like increase use of bio energy — to prevent price growth, food production should outpace population growth. During this time, the price hike of food lead to many people switching to small scale farmers and buying from farmers markets because they were cheaper. There are three major aspects of the small scale organic farming that are important to note.…

Rice is the staple food of around 162.2 million people of Bangladesh and with the green revolution, subsequent liberalization policies, and introduction of HYV or MV rice has turned a dependent nation into almost self dependent in respect of food grain production. The country produces around 27-28 million tons of rice annually, against the requirement of around 30 million tons of rice. An insignificant amount of Aromatic rice is also exported. The country requires around 5 million tons of wheat against the production of around 2.5 million to 3 million tons. In a nut shell to meet the local demand of food grain Bangladesh need to import 2-3 million tons of rice and 2-2.5 million tons of wheat yearly. In overall, agricultural production planning has turned to market oriented or market driven approach with little exception to the rice production for obvious reason of local food security particularly in turn of the global crises in the food grain market during the 2008-2010 period. Unlike the previous crises, the recent one showed that even money is not always enough to buy a particular produce from the world markets if the crises is too pervasive. Even the exporting country might need to restrict export for won security. In respect of open and free market economy, (from global to regional to local level) performance of the marketing system of any agricultural produce whether public or private will denote the market stability and consumer satisfaction completing and helping to continue the economic production cycle of any commodity. Particularly in the developing countries public food procurement and distribution systems are common as tools of providing market stability and meeting emergency.…

The low grain yields of the rice is attributed to the poor management by the farmers during the cultivation period, where fields are left unattended after sowing without any monitoring on plant nutrients and other critical aspects, such as weeds, diseases, and insect-pest attacks. Therefore, with good management practices, the application of adequate plant nutrient and water, together with weeds, diseases, and insect-pests management, the grain yields of upland rice varieties are expected to increase. All these aspects are therefore important in obtaining higher yields. However, MARDI will use fewer pesticides and go into organic farming with bio-fertilizer. It very important to reduce the importation of pesticides and chemicals, considering their cost and affect on our environment.…
