We are faced with many different learning experiences. Some of these experiences have made a better impact than others. We can attribute this to our learning style. A person’s learning style is the method through which they gain information about their environment. Research is going on all over the world to help explain learning styles. To me, it is our responsibility to learn about these different learning styles so we can appeal to every type of learner in our world. Howard Gardner has elaborated on the concept of learning style through what he calls “multiple intelligence’s” (Gardner 3). Understanding this intelligence’s will help us to design our learning environment and curriculum in a way that will appeal to all people. We may even be able to curb negative behavior by reaching people in a different way. Learning styles can also help us to determine possible career paths so we can help to steer children in the right direction. Discovering our own learning styles can potentially maximize our own information processing and teaching techniques.…

Learning styles are techniques to help enhance quality of learning. They are useful in problem solving and communication. They help process the information in different ways. There are multiple styles of learning that vary in numerous ways. Evaluating and exploring your own style will provide useful information to help enhance your quality of learning. Because we tend to use different learning styles in different situations, most of us have a mix of learning styles. One of the most popular guides to learning styles is a model developed in 1987 by Neil Fleming, a teacher from New Zealand. This guide is called VARK. The word VARK is an acronym. V, represents visual learning, like using pictures and graphs or charts. A, auditory learning, which consists of lectures, music, discussions. R, and K, for kinesthetic learning, which includes hands-on activities. This paper will address the diversity of learning styles, and how identifying and interpreting your own style may boost the quality of learning you receive.…

Though I scored higher in Musical/Rhythmic, my preferred learning style is intrapersonal which was my second highest score. The major characteristics of my preferred learning style are learning best when working alone and only depending on oneself to to get things done. The learning style I scored highest in musical/rhythmic describes my personal preferences, but does not apply to my academic and professional preferences. Academically and professional my learning style of intrapersonal describes me more accurately. After being given instructions either verbally or I writing, I prefer to work alone to get the task or tasks completed. I am able to work effectively in a team, but my prefer to do things alone so that I know they are being done correctly versus depending on the accuracy of others.…

Learning styles determine how effective a student will be receptive to instructions from the teacher or content from educative material. Ideally, scientists have proposed three main types of learning styles common among students: auditory, visual, and tactile. Consequently, a student can either possess only one style of learning or have a combination of any of the three learning styles. For instance, many psychological and human behavior experts presume that students who prefer charts, graphs, and diagrams over textual material are visual learners. This paper is going to present findings on the kinds of learning styles I predominantly possess. These learning styles are determined by scientifically approved tests, which serve as inventories where students can obtain information about learning behaviors. Furthermore, the paper will act as a critique of the findings about my learning styles as…

At the beginning of the school year, I suggested to the grade 6 teachers that we do a learning style inventory of the students we teach. They jumped at the opportunity to get to know their students better and to be able to provide their students with the best learning experience and the opportunity to be successful. We discovered many types of learning styles among the students, many of them having a combination of learning styles. As such I have helped them to incorporate strategies that will help to differentiate according to the students learning styles. For visual learners, for example, we have incorporated visual displays such as charts, videos, and handouts. During lectures and discussions they are provided with graphic organizers to help them organize the information.…

This exercise has taught me a lot on my way of thinking, concentrating, and contact with people. I never knew that these learning styles determine how I perceive my everyday functions. Until now I always thought of myself being a Visual learner, I have to see it in order to understand it. I am a see it, to believe it type of woman. After taking the self-test and reviewing the chart, my way of thinking is much broader. I do all three of the learning styles. I had to sit back and say; am I weird? Am I just able to learn, all different Ways.…

In order to understand and evaluate my own learning style; I first needed to understand what a learning style is. Hartley (1998) offers the definition that learning styles are how individuals approach various learning tasks, however as stated by Cassidy (2004) there is an overwhelming amount of definitions as there are theorists in the subject. In order so I could identify my prevalent learning style, I completed the Honey and Mumford learning styles questionnaire given by the university (Honey & Mumford, 2006), the results of which can be seen in Appendix 1. I discovered that according to this theory; my learning style was relatively evenly spread across the four learning styles (Appendix 2) with a slight leaning towards the pragmatist category. Having evaluated my own study skills I believe that my personal learning style takes from all categories of this particular model, for example; I am keen to try out new ideas (Pragmatist), I question the rationale (Theorist), I am open minded (Activist), I am a good listener (Reflector), I relish new experiences (Activist), I have strong beliefs (Theorist), I tend to speak my mind (Pragmatist) and I prefer concepts which I can apply to practice (Pragmatist).…

Squaring off is a formative assessment that can be great for students of several learning styles. To complete this exercise I will place a card in each corner of the room that will have the choices of fruit, vegetable, grain, milk, and a card in the middle of the room for meat and beans. As I list out names of foods the students will go to the part of the room that best matches what the food is. An example of this is if I said an apple they would go to the fruit section and so on. This will establish what knowledge the students already have and what we need to work on further. This will work well for students that are visual learners and kinesthetic learners. By allowing the students to move around the classroom this will allow them to interact and use their bodies to make a decision on what classification the particular food is. This movement will help them to remember where they were standing and associate that with the food classification. The visual learner will be able to use these same principles to recall information as well.…

My Personal Ethical Lens showed me in detail what is important to me in many different areas of my life. I learned a lot about different areas of my ethical perspective from taking the Ethical Lens Survey not just in school but personal areas of my life as well. I already knew what I valued and thought was important in life but it explained everything in detail and what my strong and weak points were. I value other people’s opinions and feelings and try to put how others feel before my own needs and wants. I value each person as an individual my preferred ethical lens is Rights which is the Responsibility and Results Lens. I display rationality which would be my reasoning skills, sensibility which is my intuition, and autonomy that is achieving the greatest good for each individual. My core value is protecting individual rights of people. I believe everyone has a voice and opinion that should be heard and understood when making a decision. Like everything else though I do have weaknesses the survey called blind spots. My blind spot or weaknesses are accountability. I struggle to be accountable to people depending on me because I am so focused on exercising my own free will. I may sometimes get too focused on the good in my thoughts that I fail to see the problems or missing links in my method or strategy. My strengths would be self- knowledge and my free will. I am very self- reliant and accountable to myself. I set my standards and goals high for myself and will not stop until I reach them. My weaknesses would be being accountable to those who are depending on me when I exercise too much of my own free will. I may become complacent, which leaves problems unsolved and everyone else to fend for themselves. I would use my personal ethics to use the critical thinking process and determine a course of action for a problem. A.…

There are many different kinds of people in our society today and everyone has a different style of learning. Aural, visual and kinesthetic are the three main types of learning styles. Aural learners are people who learn by hearing people talk. Visual learners are people who learn by watching something that is done and explained. Lastly, are kinesthetic learners they learn best by doing the things by hand. Each learning style has some strengths and weaknesses in certain classes. My learning style is kinesthetic, because of that I had difficulty learning in my Human Physiology and Anatomy (Bio 201) class and I have developed a couple ways to help me perform better in future classes.…
