Bridgitt Bennett

Leadership skills are something important that should be developed during someone’s lifetime. They can be created in different ways by participating in different things such as joining a sports team, getting involved in school clubs, and/or participating in extracurricular activities outside of school. Having leadership skills as an individual shows that you are not a follower and that you don’t just “go with the crowd.”

Every human is different in many ways, we all have our own personalities to help each other with day to day problems. Without leadership, organizations and companies would move too slowly, fall apart, and eventually lose their way. What exactly is leadership? It is a process which one person influences and inspires the thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors of others. Leaders set a direction for the rest of us; they help us see what lies ahead; they help us to see what we might achieve; they encourage us and also inspire us. Without leadership a group of people with ideas may suddenly argue and it could turn into a conflict, because we as humans see things in different ways and lean toward different solutions then everyone else. Leadership helps to point us in the same direction and harness our efforts in a reasonable and negotiable way. Leadership is the ability to get other people to do something significant that they might not otherwise do. It’s energizing people toward a goal. Its helping people get along in a group and agree and respect each others ideas.

Joining a sports team is a fine example of producing leadership skills. Even though a team works together, things can fall apart very easily, especially under stress. That is why it is important to develop your leadership skills, under a lot of pressure it is up to somebody to step up and bring the team back together. Weather it be an inspiring pep talk for a losing football team, a cheer for a soccer team, or even a motivating speech for a team that tried
