Introduction: The article “ Does leadership really matter in nonprofits?” written by David Simms shows that leadership in one of the most important things to nonprofit organizations( the other two being strategy and capital). David’ s key point is leadership can help non profit organizations to effectively achieve its desired goals. People’s common sense that good leaders and their teams are expensive to acquire and keep. Compared with non profit organizations, those people prefer to work for profits organizations. However, there are some other people who have strong beliefs and passions, they are willing to work for non profit organization. David shows two examples to explain the importance of leadership. The first one is Geoffrey Canada at Harlem Child’s Zone(HCZ), the leader’s impact has been publicly acknowledged. The HCZ leader makes a huge contributions to the organization, successful funding- raising and develop community-based programs effectively. Its really helps kids from disadvantaged backgrounds grow into productive adults. The other example is Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship(NTE). David Nelson is responsible for the organization. David has rich fund-raising and marketing skills. From 2001 to 2009, the number of youth the organization served has increased from 6800 to 50000. All the examples show that leadership plays an important role in the non-profit organizations.
