Leadership Experience
WHAT I HAVE LEARNED ABOUT MYSELF THUS FAR Taking the Myers-Biggs test has forced me to admit what I as an individual am not capable of performing. I have learned that I value my strengths and take advantage of my abilities, but ignore my weaknesses. To grow as a person and get what I want out of life I must not only capitalize on my strengths, but also face my weaknesses head on. This will not only better me as a person, but it will also force me to be honest with myself. One of my personal strength’s is that I am able to cut straight to the chase in any situation and not be sidetracked by non-essential issues; Moreover, I have a propensity for leadership, which follows naturally, from my ability to control and manage real world situations. In addition, I am aware of the differences between my needs and the needs of others. A strength that I possess on the Myers-Briggs assessment is that I am an innovative thinker and excellent problem solver. I find this to be true because whether it is conflict at home, school, work, within myself, or with another individual, I have always been able to smooth out the differences. On the other hand, a negative trait would be that I tend to be a perfectionist. When I do things, I do them in such a methodical way, that I am not satisfied until they are just right in my eyes. When working on group projects, I sometimes get frustrated when others do not put forth the same level of effort I do. Often I find myself losing patience with those who do not share the same idea or level of dedication. PRIMARY LEARNING I NEED TO UNDERTAKE I feel I need to be accountable for myself, as I blame the problems in my life on other people. No one has more control over my life then I do, I just need to look inward for solutions. In addition, I need to work on communication and learn positive ways to communicate. Positive relationships can mean the difference between, success and failure in business, family, and personal life; Furthermore, communication is the key to these relationships. I find myself not expressing how I feel and I tend not to give my ideas or suggestions. I also noticed that my tone of voice can often be misleading and often my message is perceived as negative. I now know that I need to concentrate more on my tone of voice, and choose words that others can identify as ideas or alternatives. By doing this I in turn will have satisfying, and successful my relationships.

I enjoyed the thrill of winning, whether it be in a team effort or individual effort. Also, I have always wanted to achieve great things in both my personal and professional life. I believe that I have always been great at communicating with others and love to include others in everything that I do to achieve a goal. My top five strengths for the strength finder test were deliberate, adaptability, maximize arranger, and consistency. For once I can say I’m actually satisfied with a computerized test about myself. One thing I can say about my results from this strength finder it’s a lot more accurate when it comes to the qualities I posses. My results do not match up close to previous held beliefs about myself. I am typically seen as the kind of person to play the leadership role in just about anything. The point of view from others of me being a leader is completely off, I feel the complete opposite. I am more of an observer, and I learn from not only the mistakes of others, but mine as well. The vocal portion of leadership is what I am not too fond. I could lead with actions, but vocally I’m not as sharp. Not only that, but I generally go off simply instincts, and not what is planned. Maximizing my strengths can happen in various ways. Arranger is a strength that can be maximized by more preparation and better using more time for organization. I believe there’s no such thing as being over prepared. Adaptability is a strength I could improvise on by being aware with a lot more situations so when the time comes I will be able to adapt in the best way possible. All of the strengths of mine can be maximized by me realizing what makes that strength of mine and not focusing on my weaknesses. The more I focus on my weaknesses the more ill back track. An individual cannot build performance on weaknesses, but one can on strength. Majority of the fields in business best suit my strengths. In a business environment consistency is huge. The more consistent person gains the most respect. The more consistent you are, the more reliable you’ll be seen as. If you’re seen as more reliable by your co workers they’ll enjoy your presence. Blind spots may result from overextending the maximize strength. You can by overextending the maximize strength by simply over…

According to StrengthsFinder Survey, my five greatest strengths are harmony, adaptability, input, positivity and responsibility. I apply harmony in all areas of my life, work and personal. I do not like conflict and try to avoid it as much as possible, such as, not choosing sides during an argument between individuals. I, also, withheld information to avoid any conflict with a loved one or a friend. Based on the strength, adaptability, I am flexible at my job, because I can take on new tasks when they arise and get them completed on time. I live in the moment, I hardly make plans as they can change in a split second. When I read my next strength, input, I initially thought it meant giving my opinion or knowledge of a subject. Honesty, authenticity, genuineness, bravery, and valor are my top strengths. I was shocked by these results not only because I feel they are extremely accurate, but these are the things I value most in life, especially honesty, I feel that you can hate a man to the core, but if that man is a truly honest man you can only respect him. I want to be an epitome of a truly honest man, and I believe my character strengths will help me achieve this goal. My bottom strengths were the love of learning, self-control, and regulation. I feel these strengths are just as important as my top strengths, and I need to maximize them all in order to become a great leader. Personal Accountability

    • 562 Words

Accountability is normally viewed as being responsible, giving an explanation of your actions, to somebody for something. When you take 100 percent responsibility for holding yourself accountable, your performance will improve, your relationships will thrive, people’s respect for you will increase, you will be a great example for others to follow, and your self-esteem will grow. How is it that in all these areas of your life you can see such dramatic improvement? Because when you hold yourself accountable to doing the things you know you should do, you will distinguish yourself from the crowd. I am convinced if you want to advance your life personally or professionally, you must hold yourself accountable for your actions, responsibilities, and goals. Think about it. Why should it be someone else’s job to make sure you are doing the things that you know you should to be doing? When someone has to hold me accountable, because I failed to do what I should have done, I have a serious conversation with myself. My belief is that no one should have to hold me accountable for my actions, responsibilities and goals. While I appreciate others helping me get better, I am the one that must hold myself to a higher standard than my peers. Make no mistake about it. You cannot achieve any worthwhile personal or professional goal, if you don’t hold yourself accountable. The reason is simple. It’s your life! If you have to be held accountable at work, don’t expect to be promoted or to experience any type of significant career advancement. If you have to be held accountable at home by your parents, roommate or spouse, it will grow old fast and your relationships will deteriorate. Holding yourself accountable is nothing more than following through with YOUR commitments and responsibilities. It’s doing what YOU know YOU should do, when YOU should it. Whether you are 15 years old or 60 years old, let today be the day that you make the commitment to yourself that you will NEVER…

Fresh out of college I joined the family business and was tasked to set up the Human Resource Section of the then 30 year old organization. It was a baptism of fire since I had no previous HR experience. I had to learn from scratch, from finding out to what should be in the 201 files and how to file them, to re-orienting and training PRC regulated professionals who aside from being resilient were older than me and had a hard time believing that someone younger and without a PRC license would require them to do certain things according of course to company standards.…
