In a leadership position, I have a responsibility to my team. They look to me for guidance and strength, that's part of what being a leader is. So I constantly question myself before I ask someone to do something, will I be willing to do so if I was being challenged. When leaders don't "practice what they preach," it is almost impossible for a team to work together successfully. How can anyone trust a leader who talks about one thing, but does another? They may not trust that you're doing the right thing, or that you know what you're talking about. They may no longer believe in you. The vision you're trying so hard to make happen may lose its appeal, all because your team doesn't trust you anymore…
Do you think that leading by example is a real thing? Some people believe that it is not a reality. Most people believe that it is a reality, and I am one of those people. Leading by example has affected who I was, who I am, and is going to affect me in the future. Leading by example is a reality and should be treated as one.…
There are plenty of people at work who talk a good game, but fail to back up their words with actions. Following through on your responsibilities and commitments is key to being a success in the workplace. However, “doing your job” is a given – it is the bare minimum that is expected of you by your employer and your colleagues. It goes without saying that you should act professionally, dress appropriately, be courteous, and responsive. However, to lead, you should be setting the standard, rather than following it. It is very easy to do what everyone else is doing – there is safety in numbers, and sticking your head above the parapet is usually a risky proposition. So, how do you lead by example?…
In my opinion, I believe that leaders are more effective when they are not necessarily born, but are properly trained and appointed to a specific position. Through my research on this topic I received a better understanding of what emergent leadership verses appointed leadership is. Emergent leaders are employees who began to take on tasks voluntarily to help others complete their tasks more effectively. They also encourage consensus among coworkers through their leadership abilities. This type of leadership is distinguished by the leader proving his or her abilities before being formally given a leadership title. Emergent leaders have the advantage of showing in advance of a promotion that they are the person who can handle the job. This type…
After studying the biography of many of historical and contemporary leaders it can be concluded that up to some extent leadership qualities are inherent but good leaders are created or made, they are not born. Because these inherent qualities need to be polished and molded through experiences and are within an individual giving him some authority. If you have the desire and willpower, you can become an effective leader. Good leaders develop through a never ending process of self-study, education, training, and experience.…
The age-old question continues to raise its ugly head: Are leaders born to lead, or are they made? Does Leadership DNA exist? We often point to one person or the other and say, “Now, he’s a leader,” without giving a lot of thought to how this person became a leader in the first place. Sometimes it is easy to simply conclude that some of us have the leadership gene and some of us do not. Those who do get to lead, while those who do not are forever assigned to the sidelines while leaders have all the fun, make all the decisions, and cover themselves in glory. This comes as rather unsettling news for those of us who fear we may get the opportunity to lead. What hope do we have that we can ever aspire to lead people, teams, companies, organizations, even our children?…
There are some concepts about leadership in the world, some people think leaders are born, and some people believe that leaders are made. If employees believe that leaders are born and not made, it may be demoralising. Some people may have the inherent qualities to become leaders, but they may not have developed their leadership because nobody else has ever noticed potential leadership qualities in them. Leaders move out of comfort zones.…
The debate between is a leader born or made has opened up a lot of questions to what the attributes of a good leader are. Agreeing that a leader is influential and needs to inspire through organizing change makes us ponder weather traits of a leader are in their personalities or a skill you can acquire over time.…
I've always trusted that great leaders bred, not born. Leadership is a quality where a person stands out and take the responsibility not only for himself/herself but for the others and bring positive energy for others. A good leader can be shown through his/her ability in thinking, creativity, innovation, warring. On top of that, a good leader not only have to be impartial towards his/her follower but respected by all his/her…
There has been constant debate on weather leaders are born or are they made. There are leadership theories to support this statement or to disprove this statement. This idea is backed up by the trait theory which says that all good leaders are born with special traits that helps them become a good leader, and people with out those traits will not be able to become good leaders. However with the behavioral theories, things are focused on what a good leader actually does compared to only focusing on their traits. If the success of the leader can be measured by action that can be described then people can just copy their actions. This is much more easy to learn therefore disproves the above statement. Here I am going focus on behavioral leadership theories of 'Tannenbaum and Schmidt' and also 'Ouichi'.…
Are leaders born or made? When I represent this inquiry to executives or HR experts, the larger part say that leaders are made; that is, leadership is something one can learn. Yet most of intellectuals have discovered characteristics, for example, extroversion and sagacity, which separate leaders from others. This appears to intimate that we can recognize future leaders by taking a gander at their qualities – yet we must be careful when reaching such inference.…
With globalisation and related intensification of trade and commerce effective leadership has become indispensable in the business world. Where traditionally the business leader took the role of commanding “the troops” towards effectiveness and efficiency this has changed dramatically over the last decades. The service industry rise, knowledge management trends, increased workforce diversity combined with international trading and global sourcing of talent, has considerably reshaped the role of the leader in the contemporary organisation. Numerous firms are in global alliances depending upon flexibility/adaptability to local markets, requiring their managers to possess appropriate leadership styles to cope effectively with different value systems and cultures (Fahy, 2002; Coviello et al., 1998).…
The question was asked in our class discussion this week, “Are leaders born or made?” This is one of the most often asked questions about leadership. People have varying opinions on this subject. My opinion is that leaders are made. To lead people effectively is a very complex undertaking. No one is born with the necessary tools to be a good leader. I choose to believe that leaders are made, not born, because I want to believe that I can develop into a good leader even though I was not born with certain traits. Our lecture last night focused on some traits normally associated with good leaders: energy, stress management, self-confidence, tenaciousness, social intelligence, and integrity. Some of these traits can be used to describe me but there are a few in which I need further development.…
This is applicable to leaders as well. Some are born leaders, some achieve leadership positions by their hard work and some have leadership position thrust upon them.…
