Each individual member of The Beach Boys held certain roles within the group, that would lead to both their successes and their defeats. When the group first formed, in 1961, it consisted of five original members. Brothers Brian, Carl, and Dennis Wilson, along with their cousin Mike Love and high school mate Al Jardine. The three Wilson brothers were already making music in their first band “Carl and the Passions.” However, it was when Jardine went to his school friend Brian Wilson and suggested they start a group together, that The Beach Boys were formed. Wilson agreed to Jardine’s suggestion of a new group, but only on the condition that Carl and Dennis were included. Due to how the band was formed, Al and Brian were the implicit leaders.…

Considering the various musical achievements of Leadbelly, particularly important are the halls of fame of 1988 and 1986 that entered him among the greatest founders of Blues and rock and roll. Another concerning point is analyzing why Leadbelly in the eyes of Lomaxes seemed so interesting. He represented the last bond with the American folk music and traditions that were fading away. Leadbelly spent eleven years in prison without having contact with the outside world and consequently, he had any influences by the radio or the phonograph.…

Imagine four teenagers who were determined to create a successful band regardless of the cost and work necessary to be successful. George Harrison, the lead guitarist, described this determination, "We're going to do it. I don't know why … we were just cocky" (Spitz 120). These four teenagers who were determined to be successful, never even dreamed of how successful they were going to be. Six years after starting their band, they were not only successful, but they were loved by both England and the United States. Today, many people continue to love the Beatles and have fond memories of these creative four young people. The Beatles affected both England and the United States with their songs and albums beginning…

The mid-1960s was an exceptional time for rock music. Many different kinds of rock, from a more bebop sound to psychedelic, from folksy to hard rock, were beginning to develop and Long Island was in the forefront. The first band to make it to the national charts was the Young Rascals1 and soon others were trying to make their mark. “Long Island became a hotbed of blue-eyed soul bands of all stripes. Long Island was the soul counter to the West Coast psychedelic counterculture.”2 One of the great popular singer-songwriter-composers who came out of this rock revolution is Billy Joel, a native Long Islander, who holds the record as the “…sixth best-selling recording artist and the third best-selling solo artist in the United States…”3 The number of platinum albums and singles are so numerous that it is difficult to keep track, but the great majority of his albums and singles went platinum, and often several times over. Only the Beatles have more platinum sales for albums.4 Billy Joel is a proud son of Long Island; he could live anywhere in the world, but he chooses to live in, work, and perform right here. “I have a Long Island point of view…the more I traveled, the more I felt ‘This is where I’m from. I’m from this island that sticks out to the east of New York City…it’s an island and we’re isolated from everything else; we’re with each other. We all rub off on each other, for better or worse.’”5 In fact, the first album Billy Joel released in 1971 is called Cold Spring Harbor, and he continues to be apart of Long Island and especially its environment ever since.6…
