Laughter and Starless Inky Sky

TWICE
IT was a rather blistery, blustery night. The cool wind was whipping your hair all over your face. Great. You get slightly pissed because you just combed your hair. A curse or two escapes your delicate lips. As you make your way to the chapel, you listen to the echo of your footsteps. You are made aware of your own company. It was all so silent. The sound of your own breathing is all you can hear. You look up to a starless inky sky. Oops, the world is not giving you the chance to be melodramatic. So you hurry on with your business. You touch the gates and thought twice. Nah, not yet. You take a step back and another and found yourself wound up the path to the other side of the chapel. The night is young and silent, a short walk won’t hurt.
You made your way, circling the chapel, passing by the statue of the Virgin of the Poor, which students barely notice. The wind blew once more, this time a wee bit stronger and your hair gets messed up again. But this time, you let out a sigh. You are back where you started and trudged in. The prayer session has started and you are very late but the congregation welcomes you anyway. They won’t judge you because they will understand you, because no matter what type of person you are, Christ is in you. Or so they believe. They smile to acknowledge you and bow down to continue. As if on cue, instrumental music plays. Ah there it is, your chance to be melodramatic which the stars denied. “Reflect” a woman says. Everybody closes their eyes but you. You stared in to the light of the candle, hypnotized by the single dancing flame, like a moth about to be consumed by its flames. You are about to enter into some sort of reflective meditative state where you think of so many impossibilities and smile because you think you’re

The lighting played a big role in how the scene was going to make the viewer feel. We chose to do a dark lighting, highlighted by the light shining threw the doorway. We choose to do that lighting because we wanted to show how it would feel to the incoming residents as they walked through that doorway. They would see the showers but as they would look at the showers a cold chill would run through them as the nurses’…

The room was eerily quiet, aside from the sound of a latex glove and a creaky bed. The loudest and most unnerving of them all was her heartbeat, which was slow, dangerously slow. Most of the noise around her was drowned out by the beating of her heart, drifting her away from her surroundings.…

Another design element that played an important part in this production was the lighting. The Lighting crew put an old light fixture in the middle of the room of the set. One light worked and there was one blown out. This gave the audience an even better idea of the characters and their life. The one working light bulb showed the economic stature of the two brothers. Also, there were breaks in the scenes where the lights would go out for the characters to leave the stage and get prepared.…

The energy of the set could be measured by the house aesthetics. When the lights were on and up, the characters were lively and the dialogue was colorful. Once the lights would dim and characters would scurry off to their sleeping quarters they were confined to their own emotions, setting the mood for their surroundings, or was it the surroundings setting the mood for them? The way the set was “dressed” also…

The next part of the Service was more solemn as it was preparing for Holy Communion. This is where the Minister breaks the bread and gives the wine, representing the Body and Blood of Christ. I then went up to the sanctuary where I received a Blessing on my forehead from the Minister. Those that have been confirmed took the bread and wine. After the closing hymn, the Minister gave some notices and then dismissed us with the Blessing “Go in Peace to Love & Serve the Lord”. Our response, “In the name of Christ, Amen”.…
