Laughter and Best Medicine
LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE
Laughter, they say is the best medicine,
When the mood is right you can laugh at anything.
When you make up jokes, you laugh out loud,
But, when you look at clowns you laugh amidst the crowd.

When you laugh at home, you scream and shout,
And if you do, you sure won't pout.
It'll wake you up from sorrow and fear,
And it will definitely give you a wonderful cheer.

Laughing can cure you from any type of sickness,
Don't ever take it as a weakness.
Laughing, my friends, is something you can do,
Daily is better and have fun doing it too!

    Patsy Rodenburg Analysis

Like Rodenburg says, one has to have major realizations about these laughing habits before change can be brought. My freshman year at Skidmore, I met so many people who could make me laugh till my eyes were full of tears and my body was out of control. My boarding school fostered an exceedingly stressful and competitive environment, and I was also the only international student who was not Korean or Chinese. I think part of the fact that people at Skidmore could make me laugh was because they were so different than students at my boarding school. I met people from all over the world, from Africa to Latin America, who were interested in all sorts of things, from theater to biochemistry, and this diversity helped me let go. It was a joy I had perhaps never felt before. I slowly started noticing my habits about laughing…

Why do people laugh? Someone makes a strange sound or behaves in a peculiar manner so everyone around expels air out of their lungs at a rapid rate. Why? In an article for NBC News, Robert Provine, professor of neurobiology & psychology at the University of Maryland, states from an evolutionary perspective, “We believe laughter evolved from the panting behavior of our ancient primate ancestors (1999).” He further explains that people and apes laugh under the same circumstances, such as while playing games or being tickled (Provine, 1999). This “accelerated expulsion of air” is an innate reaction to an individual’s surroundings.…

Three theories of laughter are common to the philosophy of laughter and humor. The superiority theory is unquestionably the oldest. All laughter is a response to the comical ignorance in others. The superiority theory makes a solid case by claiming that laughter is derision towards another's misfortune, and a good laugh commonly follows the painful obstacles that others may endure. An example of this type of laughter may be when one goes to a fair and visit the dunk tank where someone is repeatedly dropped into a tank of icy water. This may be funny because it is a relatively harmless situation of watching someone else ridiculed for being in a ridiculous predicament. Yet another example might be when someone forgets his lines during a play or other live performance. It is funny when someone slips up, and a hearty laugh at the embarrassing dilemma often seems natural (Gordon, 2010).…

    Love Is a Good Medicine

Medical Doctor and Author Dean Ornish wrote: "Love and intimacy are at a root of what makes us sick and what makes us well, what causes sadness and what brings happiness, what makes us suffer and what leads to healing". This shows that Love is a powerful one. The form of Love mentioned is not the sexual kind which of course has it's own place. Rather it is a richer and more long lasting love which is not passive in the sense of receiving it, but active in the sense of showing it. This kind of Love is what we called a good medicine. Love maybe the cause of all the hurts, loneliness, griefs and many more you have felt, yet it will be the reason too of the satisfaction and peacefulness you acquire in the mind and heart after being relieved and healed from the pain of all your sufferings. If Love could only be manufactured through machine and be stored in capsule caps for easy distribution, all of us would be very glad. How I wish a new drug like Love could be made as medicine. It would then be very easy to cure patient.…
