Latex Mattress Vs Memory Mattress Essay
What is the difference between a latex mattress and a memory mattress?
As we compare the difference between a latex mattress and a memory mattress, we will explain how they are made and their characteristics.
Memory mattress
The use of memory foam had its beginnings in the 1930s under the research of Otto Bayer and was used at Lankenau Hospital in 1965. It was further developed by NASA in the 1960s.

Basically it is an oil-based product using polyurethane foam. The polyols, isocyanates, and various agents that cause a different reaction are mixed and compacted into foam, which is poured into a mold causing an exothermic chemical reaction. The next step is to create an array of open cells. This is achieved by any gas infusion or similar blowing agent or by a vacuum sealing process. This is cooled and then re-heated to

There are different processes for creating different bleed properties, for example, Force Reflection Indentation (IFR) or Indentation Load Indentation (ILD), the force required to indent 25% in a thick square foam Of four inches. When density is obtained at ILD you can create a combination that suits almost anyone, regardless of weight.
Latex mattress
The latex composition, in general, is rubber. It is a white milky substance extracted from rubber trees (Ficus elastica). The most common tree used today is that of rubber from Pará (Hevea brasiliensis). There are two methods for the manufacture of a latex mattress called Dunlop and Talalay, both of which use a small amount of additives or mixtures that can cause the material to solidify.
Dunlop Method
The Dunlop Method requires the admixture of additives to create a foamy substance. It is then placed in the molds and heated in an oven until it solidifies. Once this has been completed, it goes through a cycle of washing or disposal of unwanted solid waste. It is cut into blocks for the intended use and dried in the air. It is then ready for

It’s made from Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC). This material was made in 1872 by German chemist Eugen Baumann on accident. Polyvinyl Chloride is made with Chlorine (Cl) and ethylene. When these two are combined ( at extremely high temperatures) they create vinyl chloride monomer. The vinyl chloride monomer can then be polymerized to make polyvinyl chloride. Polyvinyl Chloride is then turned into what we call “synthetic leather”. Chlorine is found in the ocean water, as a part of sodium chloride (NaCl). It’s also found in the earth’s crust. Interestingly, chlorine is poisonous and sometimes fatal, to humans so it is not naturally in the…

Place your new memory foam mattress in a mattress cover that is waterproof but breathable. Breathable and waterproof may not seem like they go together, but you can buy mattress covers made of special materials that are both. Your local mattress store is a good place to find them. Further protect your mattress by making sure it is on a breathable base. Plywood, captain's beds and platform beds don't allow air circulation and contribute to mattress mold. Use a slatted bed system or breathable box spring system under your mattress. Run a dehumidifier in your bedroom if it tends to be humid and keep wet towels, clothes swimsuits and hair off of your…

Aerogel is produced by removing all the water from a colloidal silica gel without collapse its overall structure. When gels get dry normal temperatures and pressures its affect the surface tension in tiny pores of the gel causes the structure to collapse and reduce itself to roughly 10 times its original volume. To produce aerogel, a gel is placed in a vessel of high heat (280°C or 536°F) and pressure (1800 pounds per square inch, or 1241 Newton’s per square centimeter). This causes all the liquid within the gel to transform into a supercritical state, allowing a phase transition from liquid to gas without the absence of shrinkage which causes a gel structure to collapse and fully dry. This process is known as supercritical drying process. Before they discover the process, it took days to create aerogels, but improvements have short the drying time to a few hours. The process still needs a high energy, leading to the high cost of aerogels.…
