Last of the Mohicans Movie Review
The last of the Mohicans review

The last of the Mohicans was a movie that really appealed to me from the beginning because of the heroism and the action into it. The main characters in this movie were Daniel day- Lewis as Nathanial Poe (Hawkeye) and Madeline Stowe as Cora Munro. The movie could be described as a romantic action like a Spiderman or a superman movie always needs the girl to give motivation to the main character but it is a historical drama. The movie was 112 minutes long, it contains three languages English, French and Mohawk, it was filmed in the USA, it was released in September 1992 and its tagline was the first American hero, it is also based on the novel of James Fennimore cooper. It is about the French and British war over territories along the Hudson River and both sides trying to recruit the natives to fight for them. Nathaniel is on the British side; Nathaniel who is a cunning shooter and a great warrior who was raised by natives named the Mohicans and only three are left, saves Cora Munroe and her sister Alice from being killed by the antagonist of the story which is magua a Huron native who seeks revenge on the British for killing his family and friends. Nathaniel, his father chingachgook and his brother Uncas lead the survivors of the Huron attack to for fort William hennery where the battle is taking place, that’s how Cora and Nathaniel meet and fall in love. The heroism shown in the movie by the Mohicans (Nathaniel, chingachgook and Uncas) was the main thing that I liked in this movie; I liked how the Mohicans saved Cora and her sister and the fighting scenes really gave me the chills and power to do something heroic of my own, the movie gave me a sense of urgency to do something towards the world. The movie also shows the struggle of natives and how their homes and lives were ransacked by the French and British. In the opening scene the movie showed how hard natives had to work to for their survival and also how they

The movie takes place in two main locations, the little town of Rock Ridge and the capital where the governor resides. There is a railroad that is being built but it ran into an area of quicksand and now needs a new route. That new route that the railroad needs to take is right through the little all-white frontier town of Rock Ridge. Rock Ridge is full of simple townsfolk who all have the last name of Johnson, which exemplifies the homogeneity of the town. It shows the townsfolk in church and they are discussing the troubles that have been happening in the town, to which they decide they need to wire the governor for a new one since the last one they had was murdered.…

Overall, I found this film very surprising. I never realized how many Native American achievements that have been overlooked in today’s society. Native Americans have done so much to affect the formation of today’s country that it is astonishing. They have made so many contributions that I had never realized prior to this film. I thought that some of the most important contributions were irrigation techniques and medical procedures. Religion also played a vital role in shaping America today. Native Americans literally were involved in the development of nearly all aspects of America including sports and food. This film is an important one because it shines light on the long forgotten Native Americans. They made contributions in architecture, fishing, schools, industry materials, and government to name a few. I enjoyed the film because it is a celebration of Native Americans cultural contributions. I never realized how much has been overlooked. The film is also effective in disproving countless stereotypes that depict the typical Native American as some sort of savage warrior who is illiterate and misinformed. This could not be more far from the truth and must be corrected. Most of these stereotypes have been shaped by Hollywood television. It’s important to eliminate these stereotypes of Native Americans. Today, I believe that when most people think of an Indian they think of a crazy half naked man screaming through the forest with bows and arrows. This is contrary to the truth that many Indian societies were incredibly civilized and organized. This occurred in many different ways many of which have been incorporated into American life today. In the end, this film was very effective in shining light upon the issue. I think it’s great that this video has become so widespread and I hope that this trend will continue. That way, more people can understand the issue at hand. I cannot believe that some individuals can be so naïve and that…

The films (or documentaries) are not naïve as we think. To find the reasons for making a film, we should ask questions such as ‘Why was the film made?’ ‘Who was it made for?’ and ‘what can it be used for?’. If we do not recognize that the film is objective or not, then we can learn wrong things, and have wrong thoughts about what we watched. For example, we watched a film about some Americans who is under attack by natives in a town, and they kill those native people to survive. After watching this film, we directly think that the native people are dangerous, aggressive, and must be killed, but if we just watched a part of this fight with the viewpoint of an American? If the intention of this film is to make us think bad about natives? We cannot know, we must watch the whole fight between natives and Americans with whole person, and whole viewpoint of both of them.…

The Last of the Mohicans, written by James Fenimore Cooper, represents colonial American people through a romantic view. This movie is during the French and Indian war in the 1820’s. The war was going one all throughout the movie and was used for many of the scenes in the movie. The movie was about love and romance between a couple of the Mohican men and a couple of the British women. The Last of the Mohicans is a movie of romance and blind love. The movie shows that people will follow their heart for their love instead of them following their brain and having a better chance of living. It also shows that love will always prevail.…

The most memorable moment in the movie for me was when Kernel Robert Shaw chooses to put his men, the 54th Massachusetts, first into battle to try to capture Fort Wagner from the south. Then when they start to charge, and the Fort Wagner troops begin to shoot cannons at the 54th. The cannons are so powerful men start dropping like flies. So, Robert decides to take his men behind the sand dunes. When Robert sees they have a lot of “cannon power” left at fort Wagner, he decides to charge and fight man to man. While doing this, he was shot and killed instantly. Then, the rest of 54th Mass. charged and tried to capture the fort without their Kernel.…

Everyone has fantasies of being a super hero and leaping tall buildings in a single bound or staring death in the face everyday and somehow finding a way to escape. All of these imaginative thoughts have been derived from the past literary works by the great writer's of the early American literary period. These early writer's entered society into a world of action and adventure, where one can see spectacular events unfolding through the eyes of a notorious man of courage and feel as though they are defending their country or saving the woman they love. This is just how Nathaniel felt in the movie The Last of the Mohicans (released to movie theatres in 1992 and directed by Michael Mann). The movie takes place in the year 1757 during the third year of the colonial wars between England and France. The movie's main character is about a white man named Nathaniel. Nathaniel is considered to be an American Romantic hero. An American Romantic hero possesses qualities of youthfulness, innocence, intuitiveness, and closeness to the natural world that set him solidly apart from the hero of the Age of Reason. Nathaniel displays all of the characteristics of an American Romantic Hero.…

This movie made me reevaluate my life, it made me wonder about the things I was ungrateful for, for all the things I take for granted: sleeping on a mattress instead of a floor, having more shoes than I need, and having money to spare on trivial things like ice cream and whatever else caught my fancy. The movie showed me to appreciate the life I was given, and to show sympathy to the less fortunate, to never turn a poor man away, because he may have faced the same problems those children faced.…

Bravery, toughness, pride, and both mental and physical strength define the traditional ideas of manhood. The stereotypical American hero of the early United States, such as Paul Revere or Daniel Boone, highlights these characteristics. The heroes of old all had one important thing in common: they were white. In his novel, The Last of the Mohicans, James Fenimore Cooper confronts the issue of race by breaking the previously cemented stereotype of a hero. Cooper uses the male characters in the book to encourage the reader to question the stereotypes the heroes of that era is supposed to fill.…

I liked that I had to pay close attention to keep up with the story because of the scene transitions. Because of the way the movie’s story was told backwards, I was introduced to the characters and the development of them throughout the moive was abnormal compared to most movies. I found this abnormal development to be cool and entertaining, but a little annoying because it made it hard to figure out people’s true motives and intentions.…
