My Achievements In LART 200

Have you ever see yourself in the next college-level such as LART 211? If you have answered yes then lets just say that you and me have something in common now. My experience at my LART 200 class was so motivated and interesting because I have learned so many things during this quarter. I have made a lot of improvements in my writing and reading skills such as using the method “P.I.E’ in a essay and annotating when you are reading something such as an article. I, also, have about having an attention grabber in your essay, which is very important because it catches the audience’s eyes. I really needed to improve my reading/writing skills, and I must say that my LART 200 class had really help me out in those areas. The reason why I had come to LART 200 is because when I went to my counseling 100 orientation, the teacher mentioned about how LART teaches both reading/writing which is worth ten units, the subject itself had caught my attention very quickly. I was feeling really excited on my first day of class because I wanted to face the challenges that awaits me, so I can work hard and improve my reading/writing abilities. In my reading part of my class, one of the reading skills I have learned that will also help me be ready in LART 211 is annotation. Annotation helped me learned how to improve

on understanding what I am reading for example if I read something that interests or confuses me, I highlight it and take notes of it, so I can remember it later. Circling words that I do not understand and look it up in a dictionary, so I can get the definition to help better understand what I am reading about. Also, getting all the main ideas in each paragraph, asking questions, and using symbols have improved my reading skills. Over the quarter, my reading skill has improved because I am now better than before at understanding what I am reading. These reading skills will help me be ready in LART 211.
Another thing in LART 200 I have learned also a lot in my writing class is how to organize an essay very well. One of the writing skills I have learned that will help me be prepared in LART 211 is using the “P.I.E” method. My teacher taught me how to make an outline using the “P.I.E” method, which includes having point, information, and explanation. This method was very helpful for me in organizing the details in each paragraph. For example in each paragraph I would put the down on of the main reasons, back it up with some information, and very importantly adding explanation to the main point of the paragraph. My writing skill has also improved over the quarter because now I understand the way to organize an essay, and want to also include that I have learned about having an attention grabber in your essay to catch your audience’s attention. That is why these writing skills will also help me be ready in LART 211. Therefore, I have achieved a lot of things in my LART 200 class, and I am ready for LART 211. That’s how confident and motivated I am because if you see my essays in

my portfolio, you will see the improvements I have accomplished thus far. I truly believe that both my writing/reading skills will become even stronger in LART 211. The more I practice and learn harder levels of writing/reading, the more benefits it will help me improve my reading/writing skills because I have learn a lot of different methods and different ideas that will help me be prepared in LART 211.

The English 3003 class has helped me in various ways in improving and shaping my writing skills. Although some of the work were tedious and sometimes frustration at times, but overall it was a fun class to be in and was a great learning experience as well. I had to take this class not because I failed to secure an 8 in the WST test but because I had problems mainly due to my poor writing. Throughout the class this quarter I experienced many methods and different types of writings and essays. The writing homework took time, and several ideas and sometimes google searches to make it a good essay I can score marks on, but in return, I learned skills and techniques…

ENGL 202 was a tremendous experience for my second quarter at Humphrey's University. I feel that I have benefited from the knowledge gained from the course and learned vastly to working and analyzing not only my own writings but also with other writings. In the beginning of this course, we have learned how to specifically understand how a well-versed paper can be defined and what it is not. The first essay that we analyzed was based off a concerned parent to beauty pageants for children under 10 years of age. We first analyzed her topic and learned that while it is a concerning issue, her essay was no more than a simple rant that lacks research and specific data that would be relevant to her essay. From there we analyzed other topics that, while they were well-researched topics, they had specific “holes” in them that affected their credibility, such as a lack of authority towards the author or missing valuable research. One in particular was to an author that relied on emotion for being against the death penalty. These helped us to analyze essays better and to learn what not to do in a research assignment. This next element of…

It is beneficial to use a “travelling” mindset when reading. When we read we tend to sometimes skip over things or not understand what we read. If we re-read things and read closely, we will understand the text better. We could pick up on things we missed in the beginning. This process is called Close Reading. Close reading is paying close attention to the words and finding a deeper meaning which might not…

When the semester began I thought to my knowledge that my writing was that of good quality. Though I had a good basic understanding of the format of an essay or letter I still had a lot to learn. My writing changed in many ways such as learning to eliminate unnecessary wording in my thesis, the use of synonyms, analyzing quotes and writing abstract to concrete thoughts or ideas. This Class not only helped enhance my writing abilities but to also better evaluate the writings of others and forced me to acknowledge the rigorous work of future courses in college.…

This is my second year at Winthrop. I transferred from Western Carolina University, and their English 101 class is like this course. It was about perfecting argument style writing, so I feel as though this class will partially feel like a repeat for me. However, we did not focus on learning to read, think, and write critically. I do believe this class will help with all of that, especially with reading. A lot of the time when I read, I feel like I am not understanding or comprehending what the author is saying very well. This could be due to lack of reading in the past several years, but also because of my lack of comprehension and critical reading skills.…

I now feel, after being a student of this class, being successful in business or school requires the ability to organize, arrange, and compose thoughts into a logical format. Without these skills it is impossible to communicate thoughts and emotions grammatically. Reflecting on the past three months, I notice that our English 1A class has learned skills necessary to develop personal, informative, and persuasive essays. These are essential points needed to become successful in today's society. In previous English courses that I have participated in, I never realized that essay-writing skills were so important. Because of this class, my attitude toward writing has matured into an understanding of what it takes to be a good writer. Without the knowledge of why writing skills were important, I was concerned about "just getting by". Now, I enjoy the challenge of composing an interesting and thought provoking essay. I find myself developing an essay with my reader in mind, and thinking what might stimulate them to read my work. This class has developed my senses and stimulated my curiosity in the literary world and I feel I have made significant progress in my writing process. The most important of which being how, by the proper use of commas, transitions, and supportive quotes, I transform my average essay into a well composed, interesting literary work, well at least I think it’s interesting.…
