Laporte Case Study
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Oakland, California) Many individuals cheered President Trump's decision to put a hiring freeze in place for the federal government. Those doing so often fail to realize the far reaching effects of a decision like this. In fact, Bloomberg reports this freeze may make the current backlog for Social Security Disability Insurance Claims and Appeals even worse. Currently, the backlog stands at 526, but fewer employees could extend this time frame. Sadly, California leads the list of states with the highest number of cases in limbo, currently standing at 233,391 applications. This is as of January 2017, according to Allsup. Individuals who are affected by this change in policy need to speak with Social Security Disability

Sadly, the simplest mistake can lead to a claim being denied or delayed. This hurts the person in need of the funds, and the process needs to change. Until it does, we are here to help clients move through the process," LaPorte continues.

People recognize the Social Security Administration has problems. Candidates hvaen't been vetted thoroughly, administrators haven't made this problem a focus and more. Unfortunately, a hiring freeze won't help in these situations, and many hope the agency will request an exemption to the hiring freeze for those handling the backlog. Only time will tell if this takes place.

"Anyone attempting to file a new social security disability claim or appeal the denial of an existing one needs to speak to an attorney immediately. Any delay is harmful, and more paperwork is accumulated during the waiting process. This slows the claim even more. We work to ensure those in need of this help get it as soon as possible, so they can move on with life and focus on getting better. That's what the program is designed to allow them to do, when recovery is possible," LaPorte declares.

The unemployment rate in the United States has dropped significantly ever since the economy crashed in 2008 when unemployment rapidly climbed. Unemployment is still higher than it should be but at least the rate is decreasing. On a national level the unemployment rate has dropped from 8.3% in January 2012 to 7.9% in January 2013 (United States Department of Labor, 2013). Over the past year unemployment has changed very little with an exception of a drastic decline in unemployment during the third quarter of 2012 (United States Department of Labor, 2013). According to the United States Department of Labor, more than 300 thousand persons was removed from the labor force willing and able to work; however, did not actively search for a job within the last four weeks. This contributed to the fall in unemployment rates. Employment has…

I agree that the Social Security Administration needs a more secure way of keeping track of who is dead or alive. In my view, this situation is extremely serious and should be treated as such. In addition, I believe it’s sad that people’s lives are getting ruined by these mistakes, such as Judy Rivers’s, who had to live in her car as a result of her name mistakenly ended up on the Death Master File and she could not even get an apartment. Some might object to placing blame on the Social Security Administration, on the grounds that millions of Americans die every year and it’s hard to keep track of them all, especially in states with outdated technology. Yet I would argue that states need to invest in modern technology to reduce the amount of…

I have had to spend countless hours in welfare office waiting rooms with my disabled mother while she is applying or recertifying her benefits information. I have had seen people teaching each other how to defraud the system. Looking at each other’s forms to ensure they have added or left out the appropriate information in order to receive benefits they are not entitled to or get more benefits than they should be getting. I have watched while they go up and get new forms and the old timers instruct the new people on just what to say and what not to say on the forms to get most benefits. Some shouldn’t have even been there and certainly shouldn’t have been receiving benefits. I sit there and say to myself or my mom it’s no wonder there isn’t enough to go around when these people shouldn’t be getting help at all. I have seen these fraudsters tell each other where to go to free food, rent, energy assistance, clothing, and even money for gas. They call it making the rounds as each social assistance program has a time frame for coming back and getting help. If you truly need the help there is nothing wrong with other help you get what you need but when it is used to not work or get…
