Language and Culture
To what extent can the language and literature of a nation or a race reflect the history and culture of this nation or race? To what extent can the soul of a nation and the universal values in the innermost recesses of the minds of humanity be revealed in the language and literature of a given country? To those questions, only the person who is long engaged in the study of this field can find distinctive answers and develop unique perceptions. I believe that the perception of the historical and cultural impulses and national legacy through literature is an important sensibility for a student of literature. I am very proud that as a Yemeni student I have developed such a sensibility through my past academic studies of English literature. What is more, I would like to further develop and expand such a sensibility to acquire a scholarly and professional dimension in the very nation whose literary heritage has not only influenced the country itself but also extended to almost every part of the world.

Currently, I work as an English Language Instructor. Being an English Language Teacher , I have taken the opportunity to instruct a wide variety of students from various backgrounds and all facets of society. As a result, I am a compassionate teacher, who remains so sensitive to students' unique needs, employs effective listening , provides individual and whole teach group support, offers positive encouragement and reinforcement to keep students focused and motivated. One of the most effective ways that I assist EFL and English Literature students is by developing and presenting comprehensible and stimulating lesson plans that facilitate all learning styles. I research, locate and incorporate a variety of resources to accommodate students via visual, audio , tactile and kinesthetic methods. In addition, I integrate literature, writers' workshops, phonic activities , and technology to ensure that students are able to comprehend and retain the concepts and language.

Early medieval Irish literature thoroughly discusses the ideology of kingship; the tales about kingship both acted as exemplum literature for early Irish kings and, for modern scholars, elaborate on early Irish society 's values. Although there is no specific evidence which indicates that the tales were used as exemplum, it seems fairly clear. Certainly there was literature designed to educate king 's about their responsibilities. Audacht Morainn, a letter from an advisor to a prince, was clearly designed for just that purpose. The extent of the concern which early medieval literature has for kingship and, specifically, the values of kingship, indicates that this literature was intended for the education of kings as well as for entertainment. Having good kings was certainly very important to the medieval Irish; a good king secured peace and prosperity for his land. The reasons for the likely existence of exemplum literature for kings does not, however, indicate that the ki!…

Most questions of whether and how language shapes thought start with the simple observation that languages differ from one another. And a lot! Just look at the way people talk, they might say. It is now argued that a very close relationship exists between culture and learning /teaching, and that learners can learn better if the way of their learning corresponds to the cultural features of their society. Taking this argument into account, many linguists, teachers and researchers now suggest that language teaching-learning practices in the classroom should be based on learners’ culture. They argue that if there is a harmony between the mode of teaching-learning activities in the classroom and the cultural features in the broader community outside the classroom, learners can behave competently in the classroom and can, therefore, learn effectively. The present dissertation has attempted to discuss this relationship between culture and learning / teaching in general, and also between culture and language learning in particular.…

As North Americans living in the early 21st century, we have been educated about language from the time we entered school. Nothing teaches us better than literature to see, in ethnic and cultural differences, the richness of the human patrimony, and to prize those differences as manifestation humanity's multi-faceted creativity. Reading good literature is an experience of pleasure, of course; but it is also an experience of learning what and how we are, on our human integrity and our human imperfection, with our actions, our dreams, and our ghosts, alone and in a relationship that link us to others, in our public image and in the secret recesses of our consciousness.…

Literature is among the most important sources of historical and cultural education; it is arguably much more essential to the public before the prevalence of motion pictures. Hence, the core idea, the depiction of background and even the most trivial details in literature can somehow shape the readers’ understandings of a person, an ethnicity group, a nation and a form of culture. Therefore, literature has the burden of being historically accurate.…

This joint degree enables students to combine the study of history with that of English language and literature. The intersection between language, culture, and history is currently the focus of active debate within both the disciplines and you are encouraged throughout your course to relate literary and historical ideas in the investigation of your chosen periods, topics, or authors. The course is centered around the twin assumptions that historical documents are just as much ‘texts’ as are poems, plays or novels, and are therefore subject to literary interpretations, and equally that poems, plays and novels represent historically grounded ways of interpreting a culture.…
