Langston Hughes was born in the early 1900’s where abolishment of slavery had just ceased in America. The 13th amendment which stated, "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude...shall exist within the United States." Langston Hughes was fortunate to have lived in a time where African Americans were encouraged to observe their legacy.
