Response to Annabel Lee

The poem, Annabel Lee, is written by Edgar Allan Poe few months before his death and thinks about his wife as he wrote it. We can see that Edgar related Annabel Lee to his dead wife who died young at her age. Poe’s attitude toward death is cold, visual, and supernatural, yet the loneliness, the heartbreak, and the suffering can be won by the power of love and nothing will stop him from remembering his dearest one. I’m guessing that this isn’t a Christian poem because angles or seraphs are the antagonists in the poem. Or, is it because he is a pessimistic person and has to blame someone or something for the death? For example, in line 21 and 22 of Annabel Lee, “The angels, not half so happy in heaven, went envying her and me” shows the narrator’s view of what the angles felt. He succeeds in making the reader, me, feel what he feels because his use of vocabularies, the setting, and the mood just matches up with one another. The meter helped him in establishing the poem’s mood because it gave me more of the interest and added up the emotions in the poem.
