. Summarise the main development of a child from the age range 0-2 years, 3-5 years and 5-8 years. Development refers to the process of learning new skills and abilities . Most children will go through the same stages of development although they will do so at varying rates depending on numerous factors.
There are five key stages of development that take place during the first eight years of a child’s life. These are Physical, Intellectual, Language, Emotional and Social.
Physical :
A new born baby will lie on its back the head will fall forward and the back curves. At approximately around three months a baby would be able to start lifting his head and will be able to kick vigorously by 6 months .A baby will be able to grasp objects and transfer them from one hand to the another and will attempt to put objects in their mouth.
At around the age of 9-12 they will be able to sit unaided for lengthy periods of time and be able to crawl and pull himself into a standing position using furniture. A baby will begin to enjoy copying sounds and actions from those around him, such as laughing, clapping and waving and should be able to entertain himself for a period of time. By the time the child reaches their first birthday there is a good chance that he will be able to walk, possibly unaided, and will be attempting to climb stairs although support would be necessary. Language will begin to develop around now and the child will have begun to use basic words. When the child is two years old he should be very mobile and most are able to walk and run and kick a ball .
Between 3 and 5 years, he will have the capacity to jump from a low heights, pedal a tricycle and turn single pages in a book. His fine motor skills will have improved which mean he will be able to walk backwards and forwards along a line and aim, throw and catch a large ball.
By 5 to 8 years old he will be able to jump from heights and he will have improved his balancing
