Macbeth Essay:
When looking through a crystal ball, individuals hope to find a clear path of their future. It seems like a gift -- to know one’s life story and how it ends in potential triumph. However in Macbeth’s case, the knowledge of his future leads to his destruction. After a battle, three witches approach Macbeth, and prophesize his future achievements, one of which is to be the future king of Scotland. Macbeth begins to obsess over the prophecy, leading to his downfall throughout the production. In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Macbeth’s wife -- Lady Macbeth, is revealed as a foil character to Macbeth, as shown through their personality and actions. As a …show more content…
In order to become a tragic hero, Macbeth must have a miserable end, caused from his hamartia and an outside force. Lady Macbeth becomes the outside force, helping Macbeth develop his hamartia. Event from the start, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth argue about moral standards, specifically revolving around the potential assassination of King Duncan in order to obtain the throne. After multiple arguments, Lady Macbeth finally convinces Macbeth to kill King Duncan. This devolves Macbeth’s character as he spirals out of control, becoming paranoid about his safety and who he can trust, all while losing his mind. After Macbeth kills Banquo -- his best friend, he hallucinates at the dinner table, screaming at the empty table: “Avaunt and quit my sight! Let the earth hide thee. / Thy bones are marrowless, thy blood is cold. / Thou hast no speculation in those eyes / Which thou dost glare with” (3.4/113-116). Macbeth’s hallucinations reveal the tragedy of his loss of loyalty, as only recently before, he is a strong, well respected soldier that fights for his country. The simple manipulation from his wife causes Macbeth to commit excessive crimes and lose his sanity. Now as king, Macbeth falls into an abyss of psychosis, devolving into a tyrant that kills all.     In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare the setting is taking place at a military camp when it is thundering and lighting out. Which you can automatically assume something bad is going to happen. Three witches come out of nowhere and greet Macbeth with three prophecies, which Macbeth then becomes very interested in. One of the prophecies that catches Macbeth attention quick is the one where he shall be king hereafter. That's when the part of the play really brings out Macbeth's evil side. He is thinking that he can become king and he goes and kills the king but during the whole thing his wife Lady Macbeth is asking him is he a man or is he a mouse because he would not kill the king at first. Which is ironic because after she herself cannot do it. Because in act 2 scene 1 line 84 -85 she says "Had he not resembled my father as he slept I had done't" Which therefore proves the quote to be right even though a person may look nice they always have a bad side to them.…

    Macbeth is introduced as a humble and honest leader, however as the play continues his blinded ambition leads him down a dark path in which he loses all moral senses. Initially Macbeth is said to be “Brave”, “Noble” and a “Worthy Gentlemen” who is willing to puts his life on the line to protect his kingdom “Thawdor”. This all begins to change after Macbeth hears his prophecy and suddenly his ambition to become king alights. This shows the first stage of the corrupting influence of unchecked ambition taking over Macbeth. Macbeth carries out the murder of Duncan and then soon after begins plotting the murder of his close friend Banqou. This reveals that the influence of Macbeth’s uncontrolled ambition has now completely taken him over. The influence of ambition on Macbeth to stay as king completely wipes his mind of all his morals and all things that were once important to him, Lady Macbeth is portrayed near the begging of the play to mean everything to Macbeth and Macbeth tried to do what he could to please her. However, when Lady Macbeth dies later in the play Macbeth’s only words are “she should of died here after” as he is annoyed at the fact she died at an inconvenient time.     Macbeth's treason in murdering Duncan is blatantly an erroneous choice. Macbeth initially rationalises his choices, reasoning that "If chance will have me king, why chance may crown me / Without my stir" [1:III:142-143], and that it would be unseemly to assassinate Duncan "First, as I am his kinsman and his subject, / Strong both against the deed; then as his host, / Who should against his murderer shut the door."     In this third stage, Macbeth is driven by power and getting more nervous by the second, and vows to kill as much as necessary to keep the throne saftly.
