Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis Eye Surgery
Audience: My audience is people in their 20’s with nearsighted vision.
Purpose: My purpose is to convince people that LASIK is a healthy and safe fix to wearing glasses and contacts.

Chris Sebastian once said, “My eyes are my favorite part of me- not for how they look, but for how they see.” Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis, or LASIK, is an eye surgery to correct vision in which a laser reshapes the inner cornea. LASIK can be an excellent option to correcting nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. Myopia and hyperopia are due to the shape of the eye being long or short, resulting in light falling too far in front or too far behind the best seeing part

In actuality, the money you save from getting the surgery earlier in life is substantial. LASIK cost is around $2,500 per eye, but if you think about how much you will spend on contacts and glasses throughout your life, it is well worth it (Health Care Marketing Services, LLC). On average people spend $250 on contact lenses annually and anywhere from $50 to $1,000 on one pair of glasses (Wade). People who do not wear contact lenses typically get glasses every year. Those with contact lenses get glasses every two or three years. The cost of LASIK is equivalent to about 15 years of paying for contacts and glasses. LASIK can keep your vision at 20/20 for anywhere from 25 to 30 years …show more content…
The newest technology of LASIK eye surgery is safer, more accurate, and quicker then ever before. The new treatment is called LASIK Xtra. The best part about LASIK Xtra is that it only takes 90 seconds to do the surgery (Wachler). Also, it almost completely gets rid of risk of the most common things that can go wrong in this procedure, which are corneal ectasia and regression of sight. Corneal ectasia is when the cornea bulges, resulting in loss of vision. Today, Optometrists can predict the chances that you will have a corneal ectasia, and if you have high risk, they will not let you get the surgery. If your local eye doctor senses something will go wrong when you have LASIK they will tell you, so you don't have to worry about complications. The 20’s are a great time in your life, why not make it better and get

In 2001, Kwitko et al conducted a study to evaluate the efficacy of LASIK in the correction of residual refractive errors after penetrating keratoplasty. Fourteen eyes of 13 patients who had LASIK after PKP were retrospectively reviewed. At 12 months, mean myopia decreased from -5.33 D ± 4.22 to 0.19 ± 1.71 D, mean hyperopia decreased from +5.04 ± 3.32 D to +0.42 ± 0.46 D and mean astigmatism decreased from 5.37 ± 2.12 D to 2.82 ± 2.42 D. Retreatment was necessary in 42.9% of eyes because of cylindrical undercorrection. Uncorrected visual acuity improved in 11 eyes (78.6%). Best spectacle-corrected visual acuity improved in 6 eyes (42.8%) and was maintained in 4 eyes (28.6%); 5 eyes (35.7%) lost 1 Snellen line. Intraoperative complications…

Corneal topography works great in providing a geographical map on the corneal curvature as well as software interpretation of certain conditions like keratoconus. Although they may not be relied entirely for management, it is useful for optometrist to monitor any changes in a keratoconic eye for example, before making the call to switch from glasses to RGP or refer for corneal cross-linking. Corneal topography and pachymetry is also useful for optometrists to help monitor signs of corneal ectasia in post-LASIK patients. Besides, it would be great help…

Demonic possession is no laughing matter – but if you find yourself pitted against one of the 13 most dangerous demons in Hell, watch out! Anton Szandor LaVey, the former High Priest of the Church of Satan, listed the most powerful of Lucifer’s minions in his notorious book, The Satanic Bible. “Theologians have cataloged some of the names of devils in their lists of demons, but the roster which follows contains the names most effectively used in Satanic ritual,” wrote LaVey, known to his followers as The Black Pope. In addition to what he called the “crown princes” of Hell (Satan, the fallen angel Belial and the destructive sea monster Leviathan) LaVey lists other vicious demons who also occupy the “Royal Palace of…

In 2004 a group of scientists found the partial skeleton of a new human species we had never seen before. Researchers called the remains LB1, also nicknamed the hobbit due to its small size. It was first believed that this new species, Homo floresiensis, was a descendent of Homo erectus that had simply dwarfed over time due to limited access to resources. However, newer studies have highlighted some of the more primitive characteristics of LB1, which lead scientists to believe that the hobbits branched off from the human family tree much earlier than previously thought.…

The Larner COM commitment to service aligns with my philanthropic views of healthcare. In my experience volunteering at a local homeless clinic, we ask each patient: “If you could not have come here, where would you have gone?” Many patients’ answer is nowhere. The involvement that students maintain in the local Community Health Center of Burlington provides an opportunity to work with populations similar to those I have assist in Colorado.…

Dr. Mark Everett, clinic coordinator and optometric physician (OP) of the Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute (PCLI) office in Spokane, Washington, looked at the ad that Vancouver, Canada-based Lexington Laser Vision (LLV) had been running in the Spokane papers and shook his head. This was not the first ad nor the only clinic advertising low-priced LASIK eye surgeries. Dr. Everett just could not believe that doctors would advertise and sell laser eye surgery based on low price as if it were a stereo or a used car. The fact that they were advertising based on price was bad enough, but the price they were promoting–$900 for both eyes–was ridiculous. PCLI and its cooperating optometric physicians would not even cover their variable cost if they performed the surgery at that price. A typical PCLI customer paid between $1,750 and $2,000 per eye for corrective laser surgery. Although Dr. Everett knew that firms in Canada had several inherent cost advantages, including a favorable exchange rate and regulatory environment, he could not understand how they could undercut PCLI's price so much without compromising service quality.…
