The inference that heavy metal causes teen suicide is as implausible as are the conservatives interpretations of heavy metal, explains sociology professor and author of Heavy Metal Under Attack: Suicide and Aggression, Deena Weinstien. As Weinstien explains throughout her article, heavy metal music has been pursued by many groups and individuals to be a leading cause of teen suicide. Groups such as PMRC (Parents Music Resource Center) would work against many popular heavy metal artists and record companies in lawsuits regarding the musics role and active involvement in teen suicide. According to PMRC, the lyrical content of certain metal songs touched-base with themes of santanism and suicide, and imposed them upon the listeners. However, contrary to the groups belief, throughout future lawsuits and court decisions, the belief that artists are intentionally manipulating listeners throughout lyrical content was found to be more often a misinterpretation of the songs meaning.…
Suicide-related forensic assessment procedures are an important component of a forensic professional’s responsibilities in a correctional setting due to the excessively high occurrence of prison suicide as associated to the general population. Suicide is a major cause of death among prisoners and the assessment of suicide risk should not be viewed as a single opportunity at intake but rather an ongoing process (Weiner & Otto, 2013). An inmate can become suicidal at any point during their confinement therefore suicide-related forensic assessment procedures should begin at the point of transfer to the correctional facility and continue until the offender is released from custody. When conducting suicide-related forensic assessments there are…

According to Item C, suicide is a difficult topic to study because those who commit suicide are not available tor research as they are already dead. However, they might leave behind certain qualitative documents such as suicide notes, diaries, blogs etc. This allows the coroner to investigate and interpret the messages and also compare them to previous suicide cases. However, there are often problems of access to qualitative documents. Such as, diaries are mostly kept personal or otherwise removed by family members. Also, not every person who committed suicide writes suicide notes, this leaves the coroner clueless to classify the death as a suicide. Besides, it is often difficult to find those who have attempted suicide in order to conduct comparisons and further investigation.…
According to Webster's Dictionary, a massacre is, the violent killing of many people. There have been many school shootings in the history of America, but in the most recent years our country has experienced terror, heartbreak, and frustration. Together we have learned things and been able to prevent other bad things from happening. The most commonly brought up shootings took place at Columbine High School, Virginia Tech, and Sandy Hook Elementary School. These three massacres have been the most modern, deadly events.…
When students at the high school tell you that those two young men were “weird” and they did not interact with others, it adds a crucial aspect of the entire shooting that often goes unconsidered by raising the possibility of developmental or mental issues. These students recall sharing bowling classes with the killers, and reiterated that their behavior was unusual at best; weird, even, and that it was quite different from the other students they interacted with. Having the ability and privilege of interviewing students that the Columbine Massacre directly affected in influenced makes analyzing the entire process much more feasible, and offers insight that otherwise would be…

The beginning of the song starts with Don Mclean quietly singing with sadness in his voice. he sings about how the music would make him smile, and he misses the music of his past that could make people dance. as he goes on he talks about that February day when he was delivering papers and saw that Buddy Holly had died. sadness overcame him thinking about Buddy, Buddy’s widow and the profound effect Buddy, Richie Valens, and Big Bopper had on him, who also died in the plane crash that killed Buddy. we see in the chorus how McLean misses the 50’s, but in the other verses he also talkes about events of the 60’s.…
Briana, I agree with you that suicide is a topic that society needs to become more aware of and I do think that the news media should be periodically reporting preventative information about it, I just don’t feel that actual suicides should be reported on the news. I feel that getting the information out to the public about the signs to recognize of someone who might be contemplating suicide and the resources available to those who might be thinking about it in order to prevent it are very important. As someone who has lost a relative and a friend to suicide, I have personally seen the effects that suicide can have on the victim's family members and friends. There are typically such feelings of shock and guilt associated with a death that occurs in this way that I feel that adding actual news media coverage of it during that time will only inflict more anguish on the families.…
