Kurt Cobain Informative Speech
“I remember watching Kurt come through and thinking, “God, this music is nuclear,” This is really splitting the atom. They raised the temperature for everybody. Manufactured pop never looked so cold as when that heat was around. Nirvana made everything else look silly.” -Bono of U2 is quoted in Lorraine Ali's, ”Cries From The Heart,” a Newsweek article published on October 28, 2002. Today I would like to tell you the story of my favorite artist Kurt Cobain the lead singer of Nirvana. I'll be covering his early life, his struggle with the fame of his band, and his death. The story of Kurt Cobain is a story of great talent, hardship and tragedy. But it is a story that needs to be heard and one i think we can all relate to in some way. Kurt was born in 1967 200 miles away from Seattle in the small up state logging town of Aberdeen. He lived there with his parents and sister and was introduced to music at a very young age, by his aunt. At seven years of age his life took a drastic change. His parents divorced and he was forced to look at the world in a different light. As the home situation became more unbearable for Kurt he was ferried between houses, staying with different relatives and friends. He spent many nights sleeping under the bridge at the end of his street (the bridge immortalized by his song Something In The Way) here he would spend the time alone writing his first lyrics. Kurt had by this time become very alienated from other people and life, he was very detached and emotionally unstable. He didn't have any real friends at school to talk to and all the other guys he knew didn't want anything to do with him cause they thought he was weird or gay. He would use most of his time in high school to cut class and go to the library and read whatever he could lay his hands on. He would listen to various types of music including The Beatles, but, living in a small town he could never get the chance to listen to the music that really interested him. Eventually

Today I am pitching the latest movie that I have written so that I may convince you that it will be a box office success. My latest film is titled Kill Bill and it is a combination of the martial arts, thriller, and action genres. The film follows a female protagonist, simply known as the Bride, who has been put in to a coma on the day of her wedding by a group of assassins whom she used to belong to and the leader of which, a man named Bill, she was formerly romantically involved with. Four years later, the protagonist awakes from her coma and embarks on a journey of revenge, in which she targets each of the assassins who attempted to kill her. The film explores the backstory behind the main character and the group of assassins she formerly belonged too.…

Pat Tillman was a heroic face of the war on terror - an NFL star who left behind a $3.6 million contract and his new wife to fight for his country after the attacks of Sept. 11. When he died in Afghanistan on April 22, 2004, the Army told his family he'd been killed by enemy fire after courageously charging up a hill to protect his fellow Army Rangers. Tillman's family was led to believe that he was killed by the enemy, which was reinforced when the Army awarded him a Silver Star for his "gallantry in action against an armed enemy." They were told his convoy had been ambushed and he had charged up a hill, forcing the enemy to withdraw and saving the lives of his fellow Rangers.…

Lately there have been a lot of break-ins and armed robberies in Jimboomba by ‘teenagers’. They’ve been demanding money from store clerks, some with knifes, baseball bats, and anything in between. To be honest I do not find the joy in doing such a thing, I believe that if you work hard enough to earn a living you will feel as if you have done well in this life and honestly I wouldn’t feel good knowing I have someone else’s hard earned money all to myself. I know that some of the crimes committed aren’t so bad, but the teens should be punished to learn from their mistakes, I believe that by doing so it will cause the community to feel safer and engage the government to make Jimboomba a better place to live.…

It was Tuesday, April 20, 1999. It was an exciting day for me in the fourth grade when I turned 9 years old. However, the people of Littleton, Colorado remember that day as something more and definitely less exciting than my birthday was. Two seniors at Columbine High School, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold completed this act killing 12 students, 1 teacher, and injured 21 others before committing suicide. Why would anyone want to commit such a horrific crime? Today I am going to talk to you about the boys and their preparations, the massacre itself, and the aftermath.…

Because there are so many changes in the history of the music I will focus on Grunge Rock for this portion of the essay. "Grunge music is generally characterized by "dirty" guitar, strong riffs, and heavy drumming. The "dirty" sound resulted both from a stylistic change in the standard method of playing punk rock, and from the common use of guitar distortion and feedback", is the description of the music offered by answers.com. This music was started by bands from the north-west of the United States such as Nirvana, from a town near Seattle, Washington. Nirvana was around from 1991 to 1994 which was around the same time that Grunge music was popular. It began with Nirvana's "Smells like Teen Spirit" becoming a hit among fans and the music soon escalated into a mainstream endemic. Many bands such as Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains, Emerged over those years and sold many records though. Suddenly, Kurt Cobain allegedly killed himself by shooting up with 3 times the lethal amount of Heroin and shooting himself. He was found the next day in the greenhouse of his home in Los Angeles. There is a theory among Nirvana fans, however, that Courtney Love, Cobain's wife, paid someone to kill him. However, the Los Angeles Police refused to reopen the case after his death was ruled a suicide. From there the music lost momentum and soon slipped back into…

Kurt Cobain was the center of attention within his family until the age of three, when his sister was born. Before his sister was born, he received more attention, but at age seven his parent's marriage went sour, divorcing, which had adverse effects on Cobain's psychological development as an adolescent. According to Cloninger (2004), "These events left a narcissistic wound and a craving for parental love that was never met" (p.97). Although at first Cobain came from a relatively stable nuclear family the birth of his sister and divorce caused him to become mobile between living with his mother and father, and then eventually with assorted members of his family. He even claims in one of his songs from the…

In Greek comedy, the eiron was the sly underdog who, by dissembling inferiority, outwitted his opponent. As Aristole puts it, irony is a sharp incongruity between our expectations of things and what actually occurs, as if the universe were mocking us. An amazinling talented song writer, Kurt Cobain lead singer of Nirvana committed suicide on March 5, 1994. Kurt Cobain was enriched with money, fame, and a loving family. The irony of Cobain's death, is why would such a successful person be so unhappy? In the poem "Tony went to the Bodega but didn't buy anything," Martin Espada illustrates being successful comes from happiness and self-actualization.…
